NetIQ is a security software company. In 2023 it was acquired by OpenText.

NetIQ was previously based in San Jose, California, with products that provide identity and access management, security and data center management. Its flagship offerings are NetIQ AppManager, NetIQ Identity Manager and NetIQ Access Manager.

OpenText has owned NetIQ since 2023 after its acquisition of Micro Focus, which acquired The Attachmate Group, which acquired NetIQ in 2006, [1] six years after the latter acquired Mission Critical Software. [2] [3]

History

NetIQ was founded by Ching-fa Hwang, Her-daw Che, Hon Wong, Ken Prayoon Cheng and Tom Kemp in September 1995; [4] AppManager was introduced in 1996. [5] Their February 2000 merger with Mission Critical Software [2] widened the company's focus to include systems management as well as performance. [6] [7]

In 2001, NetIQ acquired Webtrends, whose software "monitors corporate Internet traffic." [8] [9] — which they sold in 2005. [10]

In 2006, NetIQ was acquired by AttachmateWRQ, [11] After that company acquired Novell in 2011, [12] it changed its name to The Attachmate Group. NetIQ added identity and security products as well as data center and virtualization [13] to their offerings. It was the Attachmate acquisition that led to the alignment of NetIQ products into three categories: [14]

In 2014, The Attachmate Group was merged into Micro Focus International. [16] NetIQ also announced the use of an Identity Manager number 4.5. [17]

Novell BrainShare was a technical computer conference sponsored by Novell during the years 1985 through 2014. It was held annually in Salt Lake City, Utah, most often in March of each year, and typically lasted for much of a week. During its early years it was held in a hotel; then for much of the 1990s the conference was held on the campus of the University of Utah; finally beginning in 1997 it was held in the Salt Palace Convention Center. During the keynote addresses for the conference, Novell would present its vision of the direction of the computer industry and how its products fit into that direction. There were then many highly technical breakout sessions where Novell technologies were explained in detail and customers and partners could engage Novell engineers regarding them.
