HP IT Management Software is a family of Enterprise software products by OpenText as a result of the spin-merge of Hewlett Packard Enterprise's software assets with Micro Focus in 2017 and acquisition of Micro Focus by OpenText in 2023. [1] The division was formerly owned by Hewlett Packard Enterprise, following the separation of Hewlett-Packard into HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise in 2015. IT management software is a family of technology that helps companies manage their IT infrastructures, the people and the processes required to reap the greatest amount of responsiveness and effectiveness from today's multi-layered and highly complex data centers. [2] Beginning in September 2005, HP purchased several software companies as part of a publicized, deliberate strategy to augment its catalog of IT management software offerings for large business customers. HP IT Management Software was the largest category of software sold by the HP Software Division. The concept behind IT management software is that IT needs to support the business and be run as a business rather than a cost center. The discipline includes software to help businesses manage their IT portfolio and assets, gain greater quality from their IT, govern the processes of their IT and improve IT security, to name a few. [6] According to ComputerWorld, IT management software is designed to help businesses align IT spend and resources based on business priorities. [7] Other companies who develop and sell IT Management software include IBM, BMC Software, Borland, CA, and Compuware.

IT Management Software products

OpenText sells several categories of software, including: business service management software, application lifecycle management software, mobile apps, big data and analytics, service and portfolio management software, automation and orchestration software, and enterprise security software. OpenText also provides Software as a service (SaaS), cloud computing solutions, and software services, including consulting, education, professional services, and support.

User groups

Vivit Worldwide is the independent HP Software community , designed to help members to develop their expertise and careers through education, community and advocacy programs. For almost two decades, Vivit has been the independent, unbiased, trusted and field-tested community for thousands of HP Software customers, developers and partners from all areas of the world, business and industry. Vivit membership is free. [8]

While it is not an actual "user group", the ITRC is an online forum about HP Software & Solutions products. [9] A new HP user group, the HP Software Solutions Community, officially launched publicly in April 2010 and includes a number of former software-related communities. [10]

In June 2011, HP Software announced a new Discover Performance community and online resource center designed to serve IT executives and CIOs. [11]

OpenText Quality Center, formerly known as Micro Focus Quality Center and HP Quality Center is a quality management software offered by OpenText who acquired Micro Focus in 2023[8]. Micro Focus acquired the software division of Hewlett Packard Enterprise in 2017, with many capabilities acquired from Mercury Interactive Corporation. Quality Center offers software quality assurance, including requirements management, test management and business process testing for IT and application environments. Quality Center is a component of the Micro Focus Application Lifecycle Management software set.

RTTS is a professional services organization that provides software quality outsourcing, training, and resources for business applications. With offices in New York City, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Phoenix, RTTS serves mid-sized to large corporations throughout North America. RTTS uses the software quality and test solutions from IBM, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Microsoft and other vendors and open source tools to perform software performance testing, functional test automation, big data testing, data warehouse/ETL testing, mobile application testing, security testing and service virtualization.

Data Protector software is automated backup and recovery software for single-server to enterprise environments, supporting disk storage or tape storage targets. It provides cross-platform, online backup of data for Microsoft Windows, Unix, and Linux operating systems. The last version to use the OmniBack name was version 4.1, which was retired in 2004.

HP Cloud Service Automation is cloud management software from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) that is used by companies and government agencies to automate the management of cloud-based IT-as-a-service, from order, to provision, and retirement. HP Cloud Service Automation orchestrates the provisioning and deployment of complex IT services such as of databases, middleware, and packaged applications. The software speeds deployment of application-based services across hybrid cloud delivery platforms and traditional IT environments.

OpenText ALM is a set of software tools developed and marketed by OpenText for application development and testing. It includes tools for requirements management, test planning and functional testing, performance testing, developer management, and defect management.

HP Business Service Automation was a collection of software products for data center automation from the HP Software Division of Hewlett-Packard Company. The products could help Information Technology departments create a common, enterprise-wide view of each business service; enable the automation of change and compliance across all devices that make up a business service; connect IT processes and coordinate teams via common workflows; and integrate with monitoring and ticketing tools to form a complete, integrated business service management solution. HP now provides many of these capabilities as part of HP Business Service Management software and solutions.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Networking is the Networking Products division of Hewlett Packard Enterprise. HPE Networking and its predecessor entities have developed and sold networking products since 1979. Currently, it offers networking and switching products for small and medium sized businesses through its wholly owned subsidiary Aruba Networks. Prior to 2015, the entity within HP which offered networking products was called HP Networking.

HP Network Management Center (NMC) is a suite of integrated HP software used by network managers in information technology departments. The suite allows network operators to see, catalog and monitor the routers, switches, and other devices on their network. IT staff is alerted when a network device fails and it predicts when a network node or connection point may go down. The suite was designed to address operational efficiency.

The Micro Focus Enterprise Security Products business is part of the software business of Micro Focus. HP Enterprise Security Products was built from acquired companies Fortify Software, ArcSight, and TippingPoint and Atalla, which HP bought in 2010 and 2011. HPE has since sold TippingPoint and has announced the intention to divest the entire HP Enterprise Software business unit by spinning it out and merging it with Micro Focus. The merge concluded on September 1, 2017.

HP Cloud was a set of cloud computing services available from Hewlett-Packard that offered public cloud, private cloud, hybrid cloud, managed private cloud, and other cloud services. It was the combination of the previous HP Converged Cloud business unit and HP Cloud Services, an OpenStack-based public cloud. It was marketed to enterprise organizations to combine public cloud services with internal IT resources to create hybrid clouds, or a mix of private and public cloud environments, from around 2011 to 2016.
