Neuharlingersiel is a municipality in the district of Wittmund, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Neuharlingersiel is a small bucolic fishing village popular with artists. It is the setting of the German TV series Doktor Martin the German version of the British Doc Martin series.
In Germany, Doktor Martin an adaptation of the original series, airs on ZDF with Axel Milberg as Doktor Martin Helling, [2] a surgeon from Berlin. The counterpart of Portwenn was the real existing village of Neuharlingersiel in East Frisia.

Spiekeroog is one of the East Frisian Islands, off the North Sea coast of Germany. It is situated between Langeoog to its west, and Wangerooge to its east. The island belongs to the district of Wittmund, in Lower Saxony in Germany. The only village on the island is also called Spiekeroog. The island is part of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site by the UNESCO and the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park.

For the people of the village, the end of the war does not mean the end of hardship, soon the Cold War takes over and the village as well as the people become divided along geographic and political lines. The series has 2 seasons and is known as "Line of Separation" in the United States. "Line of Separation" was picked up by PBS as a streaming offering.
