Never Gets Late Here is the second studio album by Jamaican singer Shenseea. It was released through Rich Immigrants and Interscope Records on 24 May 2024. The album contains guest appearances from Coi Leray, Masicka, Rvssian, Di Genius, Wizkid and Anitta. [3] It serves as the follow-up to her debut album, Alpha (2022).
"Never Gets Late Here" was released on 24 May 2024. The album builds upon the success of Shenseea's critically acclaimed debut album, "Alpha" (2022).
The album features a lineup of artists including Afrobeats star Wizkid, Coi Leray, Anitta, Masicka, and Di Genius. [4] The lead single "Hit & Run" which featured Masicka and Di Genius was released on 26 January 2024 to critical and commercial success becoming a substantial hit in Shenseea's home country Jamaica and elsewhere in the Caribbean. The music video has garnered over 60 million views as of July 2024. [5] [6] [7] The next single "Die For You" was released on 28 March 2024 and was also a success with the music video garnering over 5 million views by May 2024. It was followed by "Neva Neva" and "Flava", the latter featuring American rapper Coi Leray. [8]
The album is a blend of dancehall, hip-hop, reggae, R&B, pop, and reggaeton with influences of afrobeats and latin-trap. [9] [4] [3]
The album received positive reviews upon its release. Hypebeast admired Shenseea's signature Jamaican pop sound while complimenting the album's use of other genres as well such as hip-hop and R&B. [10] Kaboom magazine said the album "solidified Shenseea as the leading Jamaican international artist of our generation" meanwhile People commented on the summery dancehall-pop vibes and showed appreciation for its soundscape of Latin trap and heavy Afrobeats. The album debuted at number four on Billboard Reggae Albums charts with sales of over 2,000 units; However, it was significantly less than her previous album's sales of 4,900 units. [11]
The album reached number 1 on the US iTunes Album charts. [12]

Mark Anthony Myrie, known professionally as Buju Banton, is a Jamaican dancehall, ragga, and reggae singer. He is one of the most significant and well-regarded artists in Jamaican music. Banton has collaborated with many international artists, including those in the hip hop, Latin and punk rock genres, as well as the sons of Bob Marley.
Sean Paul Ryan Francis Henriques is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall singer and rapper. Paul's first album, Stage One, was released in 2000. He gained international fame with his second album, Dutty Rock, in 2002. Its single "Get Busy" topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, as did "Temperature", off his third album, The Trinity (2005).

Stephen McGregor, known professionally as Di Genius, is a Jamaican record producer, singer, and songwriter. Di Genius comes from a musical family—his father is legendary veteran reggae artist Freddie McGregor and his siblings, Daniel "Chino" McGregor and Yeshemabeth "Shema" McGregor, are also singers. While Di Genius was primarily known for producing riddims out of his "Big Ship" recording studio, he has gone on to produce and write songs for international artists such as Sean Paul, Drake, Nelly Furtado, Lianne La Havas, Shakira, John Legend among others. The New York Times named him a "Reggae Veteran At The Age of 18."
Tarik Johnston, commonly known as Rvssian and previously as Russian, is a Jamaican record producer, singer, and entrepreneur. He is the founder of Head Concussion, a music production company situated in Kingston, Jamaica.
Leighton Paul Walsh, better known by his stage name Walshy Fire, is an American DJ, MC and record producer. He is part of the dancehall reggae-influenced group Major Lazer alongside fellow DJs Diplo and Ape Drums. Walshy Fire toured with the Black Chiney sound system beginning in 2004. Black Chiney is cited as a significant influence on the evolution of Major Lazer with its mashups that blend hip hop or R&B rhythms with reggae & R&B artist vocal tracks and its representation of the Jamaican sound system. The subsequent mix tapes that the Black Chiney collective of DJs, engineers and MCs would develop were the training ground for Walshy to become a remix producer.

Chinsea Linda Lee, known professionally as Shenseea, is a Jamaican dancehall singer. She is best known for her guest appearance alongside Roddy Ricch on Kanye West's 2021 song "Pure Souls," which entered the Billboard Hot 100. Through its parent album Donda, she was nominated for Album of the Year at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. She signed with Interscope Records to release her debut studio album Alpha (2022), which peaked at number two on the Top Reggae Albums chart and number three on the Heatseekers charts; her second album, Never Gets Late Here (2024) peaked at number four on the former chart. Her accolades include an NAACP Image Award and MOBO Award.
Afrobeats, not to be confused with Afrobeat or Afroswing, is an umbrella term to describe popular music from West Africa and the diaspora that initially developed in Nigeria, Ghana, and the UK in the 2000s and 2010s. Afrobeats is less of a style per se, and more of a descriptor for the fusion of sounds flowing out of Nigeria and Ghana. Genres such as hiplife, jùjú music, highlife, azonto music, and naija beats, among others, were amalgamated under the "Afrobeats" umbrella.
Dancehall pop is a sub-genre of the Jamaican genre dancehall that originated in the early 2000s. Developing from the sounds of reggae, dancehall pop is characteristically different in its fusion with western pop music and digital music production.
