Nicholas Lindsay (born September 3, 1992) is a Canadian soccer player who began his career at the academy level with TFC Academy in the Canadian Soccer League (CSL) in 2009. [1] He successfully made the transition to the professional level in 2010 after securing a contract with Toronto FC in the Major League Soccer (MLS). After a three tenure in the MLS he returned to the CSL in 2013, where he won a CSL Championship in 2015.

Lindsay has played for Brampton Blast and Brampton East. He was also a member of the Ontario provincial team.

Professional

Lindsay appeared as a substitute for Toronto FC first team in the 2010 Nutrilite Canadian Championship against the Vancouver Whitecaps and an international friendly against Bolton Wanderers. [2] He scored a hat-trick for the Academy team against Chilean Colo-Colo during a friendly between them on June 29, 2010 which finished 4–4.

He signed with Toronto FC on September 15, 2010 becoming the second TFC Academy player to sign for the first team. [3] Lindsay made his first-team debut on September 15, 2010 vs. Real Salt Lake as a 2nd half sub in CONCACAF Champions League play. A week later on September 22, 2010 Lindsay earned his first start versus the Mexican superpower Cruz Azul in a game which finished 0-0 at the Estadio Azul which was also in the Champions League. He made his MLS debut on October 2, 2010 against Seattle Sounders FC, coming on in the 61st minute at Qwest Field and setting up Chad Barrett for Toronto FC's second goal in a 3–2 loss. Lindsay made his first MLS start on October 16 and collected his second assist in just his third match, a 2–2 draw with Columbus on October 16. In his fourth MLS game he collected his third assist against D.C. United.

Lindsay missed the entire 2011 season due to a knee injury. [4]

Lindsay's option was declined following the 2012 season. [5] He then signed with Burlington SC of the CSL for the 2013 season. [6] [7] He recorded the club's first historic goal in a match against Kingston FC. [8] He finished as the club's top goalscorer with 11 goals. In 2015, he signed with league giants Toronto Croatia. [9] During his tenure with Croatia the club finished as runners-up, and captured the CSL Championship by defeating SC Waterloo Region. [10] Following Toronto's departure from the CSL, Lindsay signed with York Region Shooters on May 26, 2016. [11]

The 2009 Canadian Soccer League season was the 12th since its establishment where a total of 17 teams from Ontario and Quebec took part in the league. The season began on May 15, 2008, and ended on October 24 where for the second straight season the Serbian White Eagles faced Trois-Rivières Attak at the CSL Championship. The Attak denied Serbia their championship title by defeating them 3-2 in a penalty shootout. The victory marked the organizations first championship title, and the return of the championship to Quebec since the 1978 season when Montreal Castors competed in the National Soccer League. Throughout the regular season both Serbia, and Trois-Rivieres won their respective divisions.

The 2010 Canadian Soccer Leagueseason was the 13th since its establishment where a total of 24 teams from Ontario and Quebec took part in the league. The season began on Saturday May 8, 2010, and ended on October 31. Brantford Galaxy SC won their first championship in their inaugural season with a 3–0 win over Hamilton Croatia in the CSL Championship Final at the Centennial Park Stadium in Toronto on October 31, 2010. The CSL administration restructured the league by combining both the International & National divisions to form the CSL First Division with a single table structure. The regular season title was claimed by the York Region Shooters, while the Serbian White Eagles Res. won their first reserve league championship.

The 2011 Canadian Soccer League season was the 14th since its establishment where a total of 28 teams from Ontario and Quebec took part in the league. The season began on Saturday 6 May 2011, and concluded on 29 October 2011. Toronto Croatia won their fourth championship in a 1–0 victory over Capital City F.C. in the CSL Championship final at Centennial Park Stadium in Toronto. The regular season saw SC Toronto claim their second regular season title, while Mississauga Eagles FC B won their first Second Division championship. The season saw an increase in membership to 14 teams the largest number since the 2002 season. The new entries saw the return of professional soccer to the communities of Windsor, Mississauga, and Ottawa.

Montreal became the second Quebec club after Trois-Rivières Attak to reach the final, while Toronto added more silverware to their cabinet by winning the double during the regular season. York Region Shooters won their second championship in a 5–4 victory in a penalty shootout over Toronto Croatia in the CSL Championship final held at Esther Shiner Stadium in Toronto. York Region became the second club in the league's history to produce a perfect season, and championship after the Toronto Olympians in the 1999 season.

The 2011 CSL season was the 14th season in York Region Shooters participation in the Canadian Soccer League. The club ended their CSL campaign by securing the final postseason berth in the First Division. In the postseason York Region defeated division champions SC Toronto in the preliminary round, but were eliminated from the competition in the following round to Toronto Croatia. While in the Second Division their reserve team clinched a playoff berth after finishing third in the East Conference standings. Kadian Lecky was Vaughan's top goalscorer for the sixth consecutive time scoring a personal record of 15 goals.
