Nicholas Edward Pyle (born 17 December 2000) is an English swimmer who specialises in backstroke. He has won gold representing Great Britain at the European Championships.

Background

Pyle is from Newcastle upon Tyne, where he attended St Cuthbert's High School. [1] He was a member of Newcastle Swim Team. [2] He finished his A-level in 2019, and moved to University of Stirling to train with his team mates. [3]

Career

In 2018, Pyle won his first gold at the British Championships held in Edinburgh in the 50 metre backstroke. [4] He won a bronze in the 100 metre backstroke at the European Junior Championships in Helsinki in a personal best time of 54.69. [5]

Pyle had his debut on a senior British team at the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow. He was part of the British quartet with Adam Peaty, James Guy and Duncan Scott in the final of the men's 4 × 100 metre medley relay which they won, earning Pyle his first senior European title. [6] He won a further gold in the 4×100 metre mixed medley relay as part of the team, only swimming in the preliminaries but not in the final. [7]

James George Guy is an English competitive swimmer who specialises in freestyle and butterfly. Guy has won multiple gold medals at each of the major international meets available to him, including for Great Britain at the Olympic Games (2), the World (5) and European Championships (7), and England in the Commonwealth Games (2). In addition to further medals in those events, he has also reached the podium at both the World and European short-course championships. With 45 major medals at international championship meets, 19 at global level, he is one of the most decorated swimmers in British history.

Luke Greenbank is an English professional swimmer who specialises in backstroke. A medalist in the 200 metre backstroke at the Olympic Games and the World and European championships, he also swam the first leg in the 2019 World and 2020 European Championship gold medal-winning Great Britain medley relay teams. He won a silver medal as lead-off for Great Britain in the 4 x 100 metre medley relay for men at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He won a gold medal as lead-off for England in the heats of the 4 x 100 metre medley relay for men at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

In February 2024, Gorbenko won a silver medal at the Doha World Championships in the women's 400 meters individual medley. Gorbenko will represent Israel at the 2024 Summer Olympics in swimming in the 400 metre individual medley on July 29, and the 200 metre individual medley on August 1-3, in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris.

Michele Lamberti is a competitive Italian swimmer. He is a former world record holder in the short course 4×50-metre medley relay. He currently holds the Italian record in the short course 50-metre backstroke. At the 2021 European Short Course Championships he won a gold medal and set a world record in the 4×50-metre medley relay, won three silver medals, one in the 50-metre backstroke, one in the 100-metre butterfly, and one in the 4×50-metre mixed medley relay, and won a bronze medal in the 200-metre backstroke. At the 2021 World Short Course Championships he won two bronze medals in relay events, swimming in the preliminaries for each relay.

Sergey Geybel is a competitive Russian swimmer specializing in breaststroke events. He is a former world record holder in the 4×100-metre medley relay and the 4×50-metre medley relay. He won a gold medal at the 2008 World Short Course Championships as part of the world-record-setting finals relay team in the 4×100-metre medley relay. He also won two silver medals and one bronze medal over the course of his career in the 4×50-metre medley relay at the European Short Course Championships.

Vladislav Gerasimenko is a Russian competitive swimmer. He is a world junior record holder in the long course 4×100 metre medley relay, swimming a 59.53 for the breaststroke portion of the relay. He is a four-time medalist at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics and a five-time medalist at the World Junior Swimming Championships, spanning breaststroke and freestyle disciplines. He competed at the 2021 European Short Course Swimming Championships, placing sixteenth in the preliminaries of the 50 metre breaststroke.
