Nicholas Scarvelis (born February 2, 1993, in Santa Barbara, California) is an American-born Greek former athlete. He represented Greece at the 2016 Olympics throwing the shot put. Previously he represented the United States at the 2012 World Junior Championships. His sister is Stamatia Skarvelis
Prior to his Olympic experience, he went to Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, California. He was the 2011 CIF California State Meet Champion in the shot put throwing a school record 65 ft 4 in (19.91 m).
Next Nicholas Scarvelis threw for UCLA. He was the Pac-12 champion in the shot put three times and the discus once. He finished fourth at the 2016 NCAA Championships. He has the fourth-best shot put mark in UCLA history of 67 ft 71⁄2 in (20.61 m). [1] Ahead of him on that list are John Godina, John Brenner and Dave Laut, all medalists at the Olympics or World Championships. His sister Stamatia is also a thrower for Tennessee Volunteers and previously competed for UCLA Bruins. [2] His sister, Stamatia Scarvelis is the 2013 Pan American Junior Shot Put Champion, competing for USA. She has since also switched to compete for Greece.

In early 2020, Scarvelis broke Michalis Stamatogiannis's previous Greek National Indoor Record of 20.36 Greek National Indoor Record, throwing 20.38m in a meet in Iowa City, Iowa.
Scarvelis placed second represented Greece at the 2017 national championship throwing the shot put 19.23 m (63 ft 1 in). [3]
Scarvelis represented Greece at the 2016 Olympics throwing the shot put 19.37 m (63 ft 6+1⁄2 in) to place 27th. [4] [5]
Previously he represented the United States at the 2012 World Junior Championships. Nicholas threw 18.66 m (61 ft 2+1⁄2 in) at 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics – Men's shot put to place 19th.

Ramona Pagel is a retired American shot putter. She made four consecutive Olympic teams, 1984-1996, four IAAF World Championships and won a full set of medals in three showings at the Pan American Games. Her personal best put was 20.18 metres, achieved in June 1988 in San Diego. That mark was the American record for 25 years. The record was tied 23 years later by Jillian Camarena-Williams in 2011 and was finally beaten by Michelle Carter at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Two days before her record was beaten, Stamatia Scarvelis, coached by Pagel, won the Junior National Championship at the same meet.
Ryan Keith Whiting is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and has a personal record of 22.28 meters outdoors and 22.35 meters indoors. His biggest international senior success to date is first place at the 2012 World Indoor Championships. He represented the United States at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, 2013 World Championships in Athletics, 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 2012 London Olympics.

John Torrance was an American shot putter and American football player. Torrance broke the shot put world record several times in 1934, his eventual best mark of 17.40 m remaining unbeaten until 1948. At the 1936 Summer Olympics he placed fifth.
Kurt Roberts is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put. He set his personal record for the event in 2014, throwing 21.50 m to take second at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
