Championships

Nicholas Barese (November 29, 1986) is an American baseball coach and former pitcher, who is the current head baseball coach of the UMass Lowell River Hawks. Barese played college baseball at Saint Anselm College from 2005 to 2009 for coaches J. P. Pyne and Barry Rosen and in Saint Anselm College for two seasons from 2009 to 2010. He then served as the head coach of the Merrimack (2015–2021).

Barese was born in Braintree, Massachusetts. He attended Braintree High School in Braintree. After graduation from high school, he attend Saint Anselm College to play football and baseball. Upon graduation from Saint Anselm, he continued his baseball career playing professionally for Rangers Redipuglia Baseball Club.[ citation needed ]

In 2015, Barese was named the head coach of the Merrimack Warriors baseball program, succeeding his Jim Martin.

Playing career

Barese was born in Braintree, Massachusetts. He attended Braintree High School in Braintree, and was a letterman in football, [1] basketball, baseball and track.

Barese would go on to attend Saint Anselm College, while there he played both quarterback [2] and pitched for the Hawks. [3]

Barese would go on to play professional baseball for the Rangers Redipuglia Baseball Club.

Coaching career

Barese was named an assistant for Merrimack College in 2011.

In September, 2014, he was named the interim head coach of the Warriors after Jim Martin left the team to become an assistant at Rhode Island. [4]

Barese was promoted to head coach in January, 2015. [5] In July, 2021, Barese was fired. [6]

In December 2021, Barese joined the coaching staff of the UMass Lowell River Hawks. [7]

In July 2023, Barese was initially named interim head coach of UMass Lowell for the 2024 season following the resignation of longtime head coach Ken Harring. [8] On August 7, 2023, Barese was officially named as the new head coach of the program. [9]

The UMass Lowell River Hawks men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team that represents the University of Massachusetts Lowell. It competes at the NCAA Division I level in the Hockey East Association. The team competed at the Division II level until 1983. That year the University of Lowell was raised to D1 in hockey only and joined the newly formed Hockey East Association. Thirty years later with a name change to both the school and the team, the University of Massachusetts Lowell claimed their first Hockey East regular season title and HEA Tournament championship in 2013. The River Hawks made their first Frozen Four in 2013 as well. UMass Lowell would repeat as Hockey East champions in 2014 and then again in 2017.

The 2017–18 UMass Lowell River Hawks women's basketball team will represent the University of Massachusetts Lowell during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The River Hawks are led by fourth year head coach Jenerrie Harris and will once again play most their home games in the Costello Athletic Center while select games will be played in the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell and were members of the America East Conference. They finished the season 4–26, 1–15 in America East play to finish in last place. They lost in the first round of the America East women's tournament to UMBC.

The River Hawks, led by fifth-year head coach Pat Duquette, played most of their home games at Costello Athletic Center, with six home games at the Tsongas Center. The 2021–22 UMass Lowell River Hawks Men's ice hockey season was the 55th season of play for the program, the 39th season competing at the Division I level, and the 38th season in the Hockey East conference. The River Hawks represented the University of Massachusetts Lowell and were coached by Norm Bazin, in his 11th season.

The 2022–23 UMass Lowell River Hawks Men's ice hockey season was the 56th season of play for the program, the 40th competing at the Division I level and 39th in Hockey East. The River Hawks represented the University of Massachusetts Lowell in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season, were coached by Norm Bazin in his 12th season and played their home games at Tsongas Center.

The 2023 NCAA Division I baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began on February 17, 2023. The regular season was followed by many conference tournaments and championship series, and the season concluded with the 2023 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2023 Men's College World Series. The Men's College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA tournament and held annually in Omaha, Nebraska, at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, ended on June 26, 2023, with LSU winning the title.

Bob Thompson is the current head coach of Boston College. He previously played professionally with the New England Revolution before coaching at Northeastern, Tufts, and UMass Lowell as an assistant.
