The 2009 Minnesota Golden Gophers football team was the third under head coach Tim Brewster. They began play on September 5, 2009, at Syracuse, a member of the Big East Conference. On September 12, the Minnesota opened the new TCF Bank Stadium with a 20–13 win against Air Force, moving from the Metrodome, which had been their home stadium since 1982. The Golden Gophers finished the season 6–7 and 3–5 in Big Ten play and lost 13–14 to Iowa State in the Insight Bowl. Despite the worse overall record, the Golden Gophers only suffered two blowout losses in the 2009 season, compared to 3 in 2008.
Dino Sean Babers is an American football coach. He was most recently the offensive coordinator for the University of Arizona. He was previously the head coach at Syracuse University from 2016 until 2023. He has also served as head coach at Bowling Green State University and Eastern Illinois University. Babers grew up in California and played football at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
Paul Jeffrey Haynes III is an American college football coach and former player. He is the cornerbacks coach for the University of Wisconsin–Madison, a position he has held since 2023. He was the head football coach at Kent State University from 2013 to 2017. Haynes was an assistant coach at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels for 20 years, including stints as defensive coordinator at Ohio State University and the University of Arkansas. Before his coaching career, he was a four-year letterman as a defensive back at Kent State between 1987 and 1991.

The 2013 Texas Bowl is an American college football bowl game that was played on December 27, 2013 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. It was one of the 2013–14 bowl games that concluded the 2013 FBS football season. The eighth edition of the Texas Bowl, it featured the Minnesota Golden Gophers of the Big Ten Conference against the Syracuse Orange of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The game began at 5:00 p.m. CST and aired on ESPN.

The Orange played their home games at the JMA Wireless Dome, competing as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They were led by eighth-year head coach Dino Babers before his firing on November 19, 2023. Tight ends' coach Nunzio Campanile served as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The Syracuse Orange football team drew an average home attendance of 34,045 in 2023.
Elijah Robinson is an American football coach and former player who is the defensive coordinator of the Syracuse Orange. He played college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions and has coached them as well as the Temple Owls, Baylor Bears, and Texas A&M Aggies.
The 2024 Syracuse Orange football team represented Syracuse University as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) during the 2024 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Orange played their home games at the JMA Wireless Dome. They were led by first-year head coach Fran Brown. The Orange were in their 123rd season overall and their twelfth as a member of the ACC.
Chad Wilt is an American football coach who is currently the co-special teams coordinator and defensive ends coach for the Michigan State Spartans.
Darian "Duce" Chestnut is an American football cornerback for the Syracuse Orange. He previously played for the LSU Tigers.
