Nick van den Berg (born 24 May 1980) is a Dutch professional pool player. He was the runner up at the 2005 WPA World Eight-ball Championship, where he lost to Wu Chia-ching 11–5 in the final. He is a multiple time winner of events on the Euro Tour, winning 10 tournaments between 2002 and 2017, the fourth highest in the history of the tour. A six-time winner of the European Pool Championships, Van den Berg has represented Europe at the Mosconi Cup on eight occasions, winning the event on six occasions as well as tying the event in 2006.

Career

Van den Berg's best performance in a world championship was in 2005, where he reached the final of the WPA World Eight-ball Championship. At the event, he defeated Christian Reimering 10–4, [2] Naif Aljaweni 10–4 and Francisco Bustamante 10–8 on route to a final against Wu Chia-ching. [3] Chia-ching would win the final 11–5, who won both the nine-ball and eight-ball world championships in the same season. [4]

Van den Berg has won ten events on the Euro Tour, with a further five silver and six bronze medals. [5] [6] He won his first medal at a Euro Tour event in 2000, where he finished runner-up to Johnny Archer at the 2000 Italy Open. [7] He won his first event two years later in 2002 winning the Austrian Open. [1] In both 2002, and 2006 van den Berg was the most successful player, scoring the most ranking points over those two seasons. [1] Van den Berg's last tournament victory came at the 2017 Portugal Open, having not won an event since 2014. At the event, he defeated Konrad Juszczyszyn 9–5, Witalij Pazura 9–8, Tomasz Kapłan 9–6 and Mark Gray (9–3) to reach the final. [8] There, he faced David Alcaide, where he won 9–5. [8]

At the World Cup of Pool, van den Berg has partnered Niels Feijen on several occasions to make a Dutch team. At the 2013 World Cup of Pool, the pair defeated Scotland 7–2, India 7–5, Japan 9-8 and Finland 9–4 to play Dennis Orcollo and Lee Van Corteza in the final. [9] [10] The pair led the final 7–3, but eventually lost the match 8-10. [9] [11] The following year, they reached the final again, after a 9–1 victory in the semi-finals. [12] In the final, they played Karl Boyes and Darren Appleton, and lead at both 6-3 and 9–7, but lost on a deciding rack 10–9. [13] [14]

Van den Berg represented Europe at the Mosconi Cup eight times between 2002 and 2017. [15] He made his debut in the competition in 2002, in what was Europe's first win since the 1995 Mosconi Cup. [16] In participating in the 2002 edition, aged 22, he was the youngest player to compete at the Mosconi Cup, until American Skyler Woodward in 2015. [17] At the event, he won three matches, including a 5–0 win partnering with Steve Davis, and losing twice. [18] He returned for the 2003 Mosconi Cup, but would only play in the 2006 edition before rejoining at 2010 Mosconi Cup for three seasons. He later also played in the 2015 and 2017 events. [19] [17] In total, van den Berg has played in eight Mosconi Cup events, winning six, losing one in 2003 and tying one in 2006. [19] [20] [21]

Van den Berg has won the European Pool Championships on six occasions. He won the straight pool event in 2012, 2013 and 2015 nine-ball event in 2009 and 2011, Eight-ball in 2014, and straight pool in 2012, 2013 and 2015. [22] [23]

Van den Berg lives in the Netherlands, and plays for Club 8, Amsterdam. [24] Whilst van den Berg has not officially retired from pool, he has not played in a professional competition since 2017. [24]

Alex Lely is a Dutch former professional pool player. Lely won the 1999 World Pool Masters after defeating Efren Reyes 7–5, and reached the final in 2000 but lost to Ralf Souquet 7–3. Alcaide is a three-time world championship semi-finalist having reached the stage at the WPA World 10-ball Championship, in 2009 and 2015, and the WPA World Eight-ball Championship in 2011.

Marcus Chamat Swedish pool player, born 1975

Marcus Chamat, is a Swedish professional eight-ball and nine-ball pool player. He was nicknamed "Napoleon" due to his personality and standing at 5 ft 4 in (1.63 m) tall. He is a two time European Pool Championships winner, and one of the most successful players on the Euro Tour, winning four events, and finishing runner-up on twice. Chamat reached the semi-finals of the 2004 WPA World Nine-ball and the 2008 WPA World Eight-ball Championships, but did not reach the final of a world championship event.

Oliver Ortmann German three time world champion pool player

Oliver Ortmann is a German professional pool player from Gelsenkirchen. Ortmann is a three-time world champion, winning the 1995 WPA World Nine-ball Championship and both the 2007 and 2010 Straight pool world championships. Ortmann became the second player to win three WPA world championships. With fourteen wins, he the second most successful player at the European Pool Championships. Ortmann is also the second most successful player on the Euro Tour, winning fourteen events. Ortmann was the non American player to win the U.S. Open Straight Pool Championship, in 1989.

Daryl Peach is an English professional pool player, from Lancashire, who resides in Blackpool, England. He won the 2007 WPA World Nine-ball Championship, where he defeated the Philippines' Roberto Gomez 17–15 in the final to become the first British player to win the WPA World Nine-ball Championship.

The 2018 Mosconi Cup, was the 25th edition of the annual nine-ball pool competition between teams representing Europe and the United States. It took place between 4–7 December 2018 at the Alexandra Palace in London, England and was sponsored by partypoker.

Jayson Shaw is a Scottish pool player. Shaw was the 2010 World Blackball champion. In 2016, Shaw won the 25th International Challenge of Champions event.

Joshua Filler is a German pool player from Bönen, Germany. In 2018 Filler defeated Carlo Biado 13–10 to win the 2018 WPA World Nine-ball Championship. The same year he was the youngest player to win the China Open and 2018 10-ball European Pool Championships. Filler became WPA and Euro Tour world number 1 in 2019, and later reached the final of the 2019 WPA World Ten-ball Championship before losing 10–7 to Ko Ping-chung.

Alexander Kazakis is a Greek professional pool player. Kazakis is a former European 10-ball champion, and regular 9-ball player. In 2018, he was the number one ranked player by the World Pool-Billiard Association.

Euro Tour

The Euro Tour is a series of professional pool events set around Europe, founded in 1992, and created by the European Pocket Billiard Federation. The Tour's first event was the Belgium Open, held on May 29 – 31, 1992. The event was won by Mika Immonen.

Mario He is an Austrian professional pool player. He is a former winner of the European Pool Championships, and winner of both the 2017 and 2019 World Cup of Pool events alongside Albin Ouschan.

The 2011 European Pool Championships was a series of professional pool championships that took place at the Steel Palace, in Brandenburg, Germany. The events were played between 23 March and 3 April 2011 were part of the European Pool Championships; and featured events for men, women and wheelchair players across four pool disciplines: straight Pool, eight-ball, nine-ball, and ten-ball. The tournament was hosted by the European Pocket Billiard Federation and organised by the International Billiard Promotion, with the final of the men's nine-ball event broadcast on Eurosport. Austria was the most successful nation, winning three events – all by Jasmin Ouschan. Jouni Tähti won two of the three wheelchair events, losing just one match in the final of the nine-ball tournament to Henrik Larsson.

Ruslan Chinakhov

Ruslan Yuryevich Chinakhov is a Russian professional primarily nine-ball pool player. Ruslan was the world nine-ball Juniors champion in 2009. Chinakhov has won several events, including the Euro Tour Dutch Open 2017, defeating Christoph Reintjes in the final.

Wiktor Zieliński is a Polish professional pool player. He is the youngest player to ever win a Euro Tour event, winning the 2017 Treviso Open at the age of 16.

The 2017 Dynamic Portugal Open, was the second Euro Tour 9-Ball pool event in 2017. The event was won by Netherlands' Nick van den Berg who defeated Spain's David Alcaide 9–5 in the final. In winning the event, van den Berg won his tenth Euro Tour event.

Marco Teutscher is a professional Dutch pool player.

Christoph Reintjes is a German professional pool player. He is best well known for being the runner-up at the 2017 Dutch Open.

Nikolaos "Nick" Malai is an Albanian professional pool player. Malai is a former winner of an event on the Euro Tour, winning the 2012 North Cyprus Open.
