Nickel Creek, also known as Nickel Creek Station, is an unincorporated community in Culberson County, Texas, United States. [1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 2 in 2005.

History

Nickel Creek was said to have been established in the late 1940s and was named for a nearby creek of the same name. Only eight people lived in the area in the early 1960s. By the end of that decade, it had grown to 16 and remained at that level through 1990. It had two businesses, one of them being a motel, around that time. Only two residents remained by 2005, both of whom operate the local cafe in the former service station. [2]

Geography

Nickel Creek is located at the intersection of U.S. Routes 62 and 180, 63 mi (101 km) north of Van Horn and 5 mi (8.0 km) northeast of Pine Springs in northwestern Culberson County. It is near Guadalupe Peak. [3]

Education

Today, the community is served by the Culberson County-Allamoore Independent School District.
