"Nineties" is a song by English pop punk band Busted. It was released on 2 November 2018 as the lead single from their fourth studio album, Half Way There (2019).
The song is a nostalgia track, mentioning culture from the 1990s, including watching the film The Goonies , meeting Saved by the Bell character Kelly Kapowski (played by actress Tiffani Thiessen), and bands such as Oasis, Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins. The song is the first Busted recording to feature harsh vocals from Charlie Simpson, who had previously only used the vocal technique with Fightstar or during live performances of 3AM.
In an interview with Digital Spy , Matt Willis said: "I was more excited about releasing 'Nineties' than I have been about anything. I'm really pleased it's out there. I've had that song on my phone for about a year." [3]
The music video premiered on YouTube on 12 November 2018 and sees the band referencing different pop culture from the 90s, such as Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Top of the Pops , Westlife, [4] The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air , Blind Date and even sees them referencing the music video for their first single, "What I Go to School For". [5] Simpson once again dressed as a woman for the video, something done in the 2003 "Crashed the Wedding" music video. The video was directed by British photographer Rankin.[ citation needed ]
Simpson said that the intention of the video was 'to tell musicians not to take themselves too seriously', and that they were trying to make a video similar to those previously released by Foo Fighters and Blink-182. [6]

The Smashing Pumpkins is an American alternative rock band from Chicago, Illinois. Formed in 1988 by frontman and guitarist Billy Corgan, bassist D'arcy Wretzky, guitarist James Iha, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, the band has undergone several line-up changes since their reunion in 2006, with Corgan being the sole constant member since its inception. The current lineup features Corgan, Chamberlin, Iha and guitarist Jeff Schroeder.
Busted are an English pop-punk band from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, consisting of James Bourne, Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson. At the end of 2019, the band embarked on a hiatus to pursue solo projects. In 2023, Busted announced their return for their 20 year anniversary, consisting of an upcoming album and tour.
Charles Robert Simpson is an English singer, songwriter and musician from Suffolk. He is a member of the pop-punk band Busted and he is also the lead vocalist and the rhythm guitarist in the British post-hardcore band Fightstar. AllMusic has noted that Simpson is "perhaps the only pop star to make the convincing transition from fresh-faced boy bander to authentic hard rock frontman". Simpson is a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, bass, keyboard, piano and drums.

Monuments to an Elegy is the ninth studio album by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, released on December 9, 2014 on Martha's Music. Band leader Billy Corgan noted that—like the band's previous release, Oceania—the album is part of the 34-track music project, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. It turned out to be the last part of the series due to cancellation of the project in 2018. This is their second album after 1998's Adore to not feature original drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, and their second after 2007's Zeitgeist to not feature original bassist D'arcy Wretzky. Corgan and guitarist Jeff Schroeder recorded the album as a duo, with Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee adding drum parts. This was the last album before the return of original guitarist James Iha and drummer Chamberlin in 2018.
