Sali Ram Berisha is an Albanian cardiologist and conservative politician who served as the president of Albania from 1992 to 1997 and 32nd prime minister from 2005 to 2013. Berisha serves as Chairman of the Democratic Party of Albania since 2022 and has held the position previously from 1990 to 2013. He also serves as the incumbent Leader of Opposition in the Albanian parliament.
Edi Rama is an Albanian politician, painter, writer, former university lecturer, publicist and former basketball player, who has served as the 33rd and incumbent Prime Minister of Albania since 2013 and chairman of the Socialist Party of Albania since 2005. He was appointed Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in 1998, an office he held until 2000. First elected mayor of Tirana in 2000, he was reelected in 2003 and 2007.

Aleksandër Gabriel Meksi is an Albanian archaeologist and politician who served as the 28th Prime Minister of Albania from April 13, 1992, to March 11, 1997. A former archaeologist, he was the first person to be prime minister of Albania after the end of communist rule. Meksi was a member of the Democratic Party of Albania and took office at the same time as President Sali Berisha, who also belonged to that party. Before entering politics, Meksi was a researcher and restorer of monuments of medieval architecture.

The fall of communism in Albania, the last such event in Europe outside the Soviet Union, started in December 1990 with student demonstrations in the capital, Tirana, although protests started in January that year in other cities like Shkodra and Kavaja. The Central Committee of the communist Party of Labour of Albania allowed political pluralism on 11 December and the largest opposition party, the Democratic Party, was founded the next day. March 1991 elections left the Party of Labour in power, but a general strike and urban opposition led to the formation of a "stability government" that included non-communists. Albania's former communists were routed in elections in March 1992 amid economic collapse and social unrest, with the Democratic Party winning most seats and its party head, Sali Berisha, becoming president.
The Youth Forum of the Democratic Party of Albania is the youth wing of the Democratic Party of Albania. Founded in 1991 following the collapse of the communist regime, FRPD in recent times has grown to become one of the largest youth political organisations in the western balkans, with major contributions and influence within the Democratic Party. FRPD is one of the founders of the Youth of European People's Party (YEPP) in 1997, and in 2020, following years of negotiations, managed to become full members of European Democrat Students.
The 2011 Albanian opposition demonstrations were a series of Antigovernment protests in cities around Albania following 18 months of political conflict over alleged electoral fraud by the opposition. A video surfaced which portrayed the deputy prime minister arranging a corrupt deal with the minister of economy. The public outcry over the video resulted in the resignation of the deputy prime minister, Ilir Meta. A demonstration was called by parliamentary opposition parties, which include the Socialist Party and the Unity for Human Rights Party. These were called on 21 January in order to protest the alleged corruption of the Albanian government as well as widespread unemployment and poverty in the country.
The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist–Leninist) is a federal political party in Canada. It was founded in 1970 by Hardial Bains, a staunch Stalinist and anti-revisionist. The CPC(M-L) has been registered with Elections Canada as the Marxist–Leninist Party of Canada (MLPC) since 1974, as the party is prohibited from using the name "Communist Party of Canada" in Canadian elections to avoid confusion among voters. The party is not an offshoot of the Communist Party of Canada; its early membership came from student-led organizations active in the 1960s. After a period of alignment with Maoism and China, the CPC(M-L) pursued a Hoxhaist, pro-Albanian line until the early 1990s. At present, the party directs most of its public support to Cuba and North Korea.
Claudiu Crăciun is a Romanian academic, environmental and civic activist. A lecturer at the National School of Political Science and Public Administration, Crăciun has been active in Romanian civil society, having been involved in the 2012 Romanian protests, the 2013 Romanian protests against the Roșia Montană Project and the protests against illegal logging in 2015. He led a campaign to run as a candidate at the 2019 Romanian presidential election, which collected 13 thousand signatures but failed to meet the threshold required by Romanian electoral law. He is the Secretary-General of the Democracy and Solidarity Party (Demos), founded in 2016 and registered in 2018.

Yll Rugova is one of two deputy Ministers for Culture in Kosovo. He is a political activist, information designer and typographer from Kosovo. As a political and social activist, he is known as one of the founders of the Strong Party and initiator of a series of political and social events in Kosovo, including the 2013 protests against KEK in Pristina. In 2014 he was a candidate for Partia e Fortë during national elections.

Starting from 16 February 2019, the opposition parties organized a series of protests and rallies against the government to demand new elections and the formation of a technocrat government that would ensure the fairness of the electoral process, citing electoral fraud and corruption in the government as the main reasons for the need for change.
Parliamentary elections will be held in Albania by June 2025.
