Nkhorongo(Tumbuka: Scattered trees) is a residential town in Luwinga, Mzuzu. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] It is located North of Mzuzu, Northern Region, Malawi. [8] [9] [10] [11] It is a home to a regional team, Nkhorongo United Team, [11] as well as Nkholongo FC. [12]

Institutions

Nkhorongo Community Garden was established by local members from Nkhorongo village. The community garden is located in village headman Chikwati in Traditional Authority Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba district. Local crops grown include: peas, maize, “kamuganje” (local spinach), pumpkins, bananas, sugarcane, cherry tomatoes, and okra. [13]

The Viphya Mountains, also known as the Viphya Plateau or Viphya Highlands, are a mountain range in Malawi's Northern Region.

Chimango Chimpimpha Mughogho-Gondwe is a Malawian politician. She is the current Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development. She is the former Deputy Minister of Persons with Disability and the Elderly. She was a Member of the National Assembly for Chitipa South Constituency, but lost in the People's Party primaries for the 2014 election. She then decided to stand as an independent candidate, but lost.

The Malawi Defence Force is the state military organisation responsible for defending Malawi. It originated from elements of the British King's African Rifles, colonial units formed before independence in 1964.

The Kanyika mine is an open pit mine which extracts niobium ore from a large deposit located in northern Malawi in the Northern Region, about 250 kilometers north of Lilongwe. It will be the second-largest mining operation in the country, behind the Kayelekera mine. Kanyika represents one of the largest niobium mineral resource in Malawi having estimated resources of 60 million tonnes of ore grading 0.29% niobium metal. The mine is the main project of the Australia-based Globe Metals & Mining Ltd.

Bangladesh–Malawi relations are the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Malawi. Neither country has a resident ambassador. Blandina Khondowe, born Blandina Mlenga, was best known for her role as Miss Malawi 2002 and for her breast cancer advocacy. She is the founder of Think Pink – Malawi campaign for breast cancer awareness and the founder of Hope for Cancer Foundation. She was an advocate for breast cancer awareness and spoke about the lack of facilities and access to equitable management. She, until her death on 21 November 2020, worked as a civil servant for Malawi's Ministry of Tourism.

Qabaniso Malewezi, also known as Q, is a Malawian musician and poet. A former producer for the hip-hop band Real Elements, he has since authored several collections of poems including the audio collection People. In 2015 he received an honorary doctorate from Mzuzu University.

Katawa C.C.A.P. Singers is Malawian choir group that emerged in early 1980s and rose to fame in the 1990s. It got its name from a township in Mzuzu and the group started during a fundraising initiative that was intended to construct a Presbyterian church in Katawa area in 1990. The initiative was organised by Allen Mtambo and Reverend Peter Mushanga, as well as Pickford Jungu. They started producing electronic gospel music when they received a Yamaha keyboard from donors that were visiting the church then. The group won several awards, including the Malawi Broadcasting Station (MBC) award.

Allan Chiyembekeza is a Malawian politician and educator. He was the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of Malawi, having been appointed to the position on 12 January 2015 by former president of Malawi, Peter Mutharika. His term began on 31 May 2014. In 2016, he was the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development. As a minister of agriculture, he encouraged local farmers in the country to grow sorghum to deal with the effects of climate change.

Lawrence Mbenjere is a Malawian local artist, composer and producer. He has collaborated with various artists such as Paul Banda and Katelele Ching'oma. Mbenjere came into public in 2005 with his debut album Ndimasilira, which had a hit Chiphaso (passport). The album was followed by Biriwita released in 2006, Sewere (2007), Udzaleka (2009), and Khwekhwelere(2010). In 2011, Mbenjere released Kwawilira Ku Maliketi that saw large public demand. On December 29, 2009, Lawrence Mbenjere set a new record when he became the first musician in Malawi to pull home money in excess of over K2.5 million in royalties.

Luwinga is a town north of Mzuzu city in Mzimba District, Malawi and forms part of the Mzuzu municipality. Institutions found in Luwinga include the third biggest referral hospital in Malawi, Mzuzu Central Hospital and Mzuzu University.

Masasa is a densely populated township in Northern Region, Malawi. It is located in the Northern Region of the Mzuzu.Masasa is known for its beautiful landscapes and serene environment. The area is also home to several regional parks and recreational facilities.

Zolozolo is a densely populated township in Mzuzu, Northern Region, Malawi. It is located north of Mzuzu. The township is reported to have massive gang activities and high levels of accident. It is known for its lively markets and rich cultural scene.

Priscilla Kayira is a Malawian radio broadcaster, presenter and television personality. In 2019, Kayira was nominated the Personality of the Year along with Luna and Sharon Chirwa in UMP Media Awards. She won the same award in the same category in 2020 and 2022.She was born in Mzuzu and moved to Southern Region to purse her career. She is a Tumbuka by tribe. Her role model was the former MBC-TV personality, Tamara Chafunya.

Sharon Chirwa is a Malawian author and television personality. She was born in Mzuzu. She is a Tumbuka by tribe. In 2019, Chirwa was nominated the Personality of the Year along with Luna and Priscilla Kayira in UMP Media Awards. In 2020, she was nominated for Best Female TV Personality.

Area 1B is a residential town in Luwinga, Mzuzu. It is located in the Northern Region of Malawi It’s known for its beautiful landscapes and serene environment, as well as the area is also home to several parks and recreational facilities. The town is home to Area 1B FC. In 2018, about 320 people in Area 1B lost their homes following heavy rains that the City experienced.

Katoto is a residential town in Mzuzu known for its lively markets and rich cultural scene. It is located South of Mzuzu City in the Northern Region of Malawi. It’s home to several businesses, colleges and shopping centers such as St. John Of God Institute Of Vocational Training.

Mzuzu Coffee Planters Cooperative Union Limited is the only coffee company that produces international standard coffee in Malawi that operates in Northern Region of Malawi. It is located in Luwinga townand the company was established on 1 April 2007. Before it became the union, it operated as Smallholder Coffee Authority from 1979 to 1999 and as Smallholder Coffee Farmers Trust from 1999 to 2007 when coffee sector was liberalized in Malawi. In 2006 under a large European-Union influence project, the cooperative expanded and built many of its 61 CPUs and a centralized dry mill in Mzuzu town for hulling, processing, and export.
