NOAH Grand Square 2021 was a professional wrestling event promoted by CyberFight's sub-brand Pro Wrestling Noah. It took place on October 10, 2021, in Osaka, Japan, at the Edion Arena Osaka. The event aired on CyberAgent's AbemaTV online linear television service and CyberFight's streaming service Wrestle Universe. [2]

Nine matches were contested at the event, and three of Noah's five championships were on the line. The main event saw Katsuhiko Nakajima defeat Naomichi Marufuji to win the GHC Heavyweight Championship.

Storylines

The event featured nine professional wrestling matches that resulted from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portrayed villains, heroes, or less distinguishable characters in the scripted events that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches. [3]

Event

The event started with the tag team confrontation between the teams of Kinya Okada and Yasutaka Yano, and Daiki Inaba and Kai Fujimura, solded with the victory of the latters. Next up, Akitoshi Saito, King Tany and Mohammed Yone picked up a victory over Hao, Nio and Tadasuke in six-man tag team competition. The third bout saw Aleja and Manabu Soya outmatching Junta Miyawaki and Masa Kitamiya in tag team action. In the fourth match, Kotaro Suzuki and Yo-Hey defeated Seiki Yoshioka and Yoshinari Ogawa in tag team competition. The fifth match saw Masaaki Mochizuki, Masakatsu Funaki and Masato Tanaka defeating Kazuyuki Fujita, Kendo Kashin and Takashi Sugiura in six-man tag team action. Next up Eita and Nosawa Rongai defeated Atsushi Kotoge and Hajime Ohara to win the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship, ending the latter team's reign at 28 days and no successful defenses. In the seventh match, Hayata defeated Daisuke Harada to secure the fifth consecutive defense of the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship in that respective reign. In the semi main event, one half of the GHC Tag Team Champions Kaito Kiyomiya and Kenoh picked up a victory over Kazushi Sakuraba and Keiji Muto in tag team competition. [4]

In the main event, Katsuhiko Nakajima defeated Naomichi Marufuji to win the GHC Heavyweight Championship, ending the latter's reign at 126 days and two successful defenses. [5] [6] [7]

The Global Honored Crown (GHC) Heavyweight Championship is the professional wrestling world heavyweight championship created and promoted by Pro Wrestling Noah, which was merged with Japanese promotion DDT to form CyberFight in 2020. It is one of CyberFight's two top men's world titles, alongside the KO-D Openweight Championship in DDT Pro-Wrestling. The title was also defended on Impact Wrestling which has a working relationship with Pro Wrestling Noah. It was created on April 15, 2001 when Mitsuharu Misawa defeated Yoshihiro Takayama in a 16-man tournament final. Though its name implies a particular weight class, it has been periodically held by junior heavyweights, including Yoshinari Ogawa, Kenta, Naomichi Marufuji, Katsuhiko Nakajima and Kenoh. The current champion is Kaito Kiyomiya, who is in his third reign. He defeated El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. at Wrestle Magic on May 4, 2024, in Tokyo, Japan.

Naomichi Marufuji is a Japanese professional wrestler currently signed to Pro Wrestling Noah. Marufuji is a four-time GHC Heavyweight Champion, as well as the first of two men to win Junior Heavyweight Championships in all three major Japanese promotions. In 2009, he was appointed to the position of Vice President of Pro Wrestling Noah, and has retained the position since, being reappointed in September 2011. He also makes occasional appearances in other professional wrestling promotions including New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), Ring of Honor (ROH), and Impact Wrestling.

Takashi Sugiura is a Japanese professional wrestler, currently working for Pro Wrestling Noah (Noah). Sugiura, an accomplished amateur wrestler, joined Noah's dojo in 2000, making his professional debut on December 23, 2000, and thus becoming the first wrestler to make his pro wrestling debut in Noah. He has also competed in mixed martial arts with a notable victory over Giant Silva. Sugiura wrestled as a junior heavyweight in his earlier pro career and is a former GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion. Sugiura moved up to heavyweight and became the second longest reigning GHC Heavyweight Champion, having held the title for 581 days between December 2009 and July 2011. As of September 2011, Sugiura is the chairman of Noah's Wrestler's Association and holds the concomitant position on the promotion's board of directors.

Satoshi Yoneyama, better known by his ring name Muhammad Yone, is a Japanese professional wrestler, currently working for Pro Wrestling Noah, where he is a multi-time GHC Tag Team Champion, a one time GHC Openweight Hardcore Champion and winner of the Global Tag League in 2012 with Naomichi Marufuji. He is known for his trademark afro hairstyle, which earned him the nickname "Mr. Afro".

Go Shiozaki is a Japanese professional wrestler currently signed to Pro Wrestling Noah. He is a record-holding five time former GHC Heavyweight Champion. He made his debut for the Pro Wrestling Noah in July 2004 and initially remained with Pro Wrestling Noah until the end of 2012 when he jumped to All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW). In AJPW, he became a one-time Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion and a two-time World Tag Team Champion, before resigning from the promotion in September 2015. The N-1 Victory is an annual professional wrestling round-robin tournament held by Pro Wrestling Noah, established in 2010 as the Global League. In 2019, the tournament was rebranded as the N-1 Victory.

Mitsuhiro Kitamiya is a Japanese professional wrestler signed to Pro Wrestling Noah. Kitamiya's ring name Masa Kitamiya is a tribute to former professional wrestler Masa Saito. Kitamiya also wears a similar ring attire to Saito as tribute.
