NOAH Cross Over in Sendai 2021 was a professional wrestling event promoted by CyberFight's sub-brand Pro Wrestling Noah took place on July 11, 2021, in Sendai, Japan, at the Sendai Sun Plaza. The event aired on CyberAgent's AbemaTV online linear television service and CyberFight's streaming service Wrestle Universe. [2]
Eight matches were contested at the event, and two of Noah's five championships were on the line. The main event saw Naomichi Marufuji defeat Takashi Sugiura to retain the GHC Heavyweight Championship.
The event featured eight professional wrestling matches that resulted from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portrayed villains, heroes, or less distinguishable characters in the scripted events that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches. [3]
The event started with the singles confrontation between Yasutaka Yano and Nio, solded with the victory of the latter. In the second match, Masaaki Mochizuki and Masato Tanaka picked up a victory over Junta Miyawaki and Kinya Okada in tag team action. The third bout saw GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion Hayata, Seiki Yoshioka and Yuya Susumu outmatching the team of Ikuto Hidaka, Nosawa Rongai and Yo-Hey in six-man tag team competition. Next up, Kazushi Sakuraba, Kazuyuki Fujita and Kendo Kashin defeated Akitoshi Saito, King Tany and Mohammed Yone in another six-person tag bout. In the fifth match, Daisuke Harada and Hajime Ohara defeated Hao and Tadasuke to secure their first successful defense of the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship in that respective reign. Next up, Katsuhiko Nakajima, Kenoh and Manabu Soya defeated Atsushi Kotoge, Yoshiki Inamura and one half of the GHC Tag Team Champions Masa Kitamiya in six-man tag team competition. In the semi main event, Keiji Muto and Yoshinari Ogawa picked up a win over Kaito Kiyomiya and Kotaro Suzuki. [4] [5]
In the main event, Naomichi Marufuji defeated GHC National Champion Takashi Sugiura to secure the first successful defense of the GHC Heavyweight Championship in that respective reign. Later on, he received a challenge from Kazushi Sakuraba in a match which was set for Cross Over in Hiroshima 2021 on August 1. [6] [7] [8]
Naomichi Marufuji is a Japanese professional wrestler currently signed to Pro Wrestling Noah. Marufuji is a four-time GHC Heavyweight Champion, as well as the first of two men to win Junior Heavyweight Championships in all three major Japanese promotions. In 2009, he was appointed to the position of Vice President of Pro Wrestling Noah, and has retained the position since, being reappointed in September 2011. He also makes occasional appearances in other professional wrestling promotions including New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), Ring of Honor (ROH), and Impact Wrestling.
Takashi Sugiura is a Japanese professional wrestler, currently working for Pro Wrestling Noah (Noah). Sugiura, an accomplished amateur wrestler, joined Noah's dojo in 2000, making his professional debut on December 23, 2000, and thus becoming the first wrestler to make his pro wrestling debut in Noah. He has also competed in mixed martial arts with a notable victory over Giant Silva. Sugiura wrestled as a junior heavyweight in his earlier pro career and is a former GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion. Sugiura moved up to heavyweight and became the second longest reigning GHC Heavyweight Champion, having held the title for 581 days between December 2009 and July 2011. As of September 2011, Sugiura is the chairman of Noah's Wrestler's Association and holds the concomitant position on the promotion's board of directors.
Katsuhiko Nakajima is a Japanese professional wrestler currently working as a freelancer. He is a former Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion in All Japan Pro Wrestling and a two-time GHC Heavyweight Champion in Pro Wrestling NOAH.
Kaito Kiyomiya is a Japanese professional wrestler who is currently signed to Pro Wrestling Noah, where he is the current and three-time GHC Heavyweight Champion. He also makes appearances for partner promotion New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
CyberFight Festival 2021 was a professional wrestling event promoted by CyberFight for its four brands, DDT Pro-Wrestling (DDT), Pro Wrestling Noah (Noah), Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling (TJPW), and Ganbare☆Pro-Wrestling (GanPro).
