NOAH Mitsuharu Misawa Memorial 2021 In Korakuen Hall: Forever In Our Hearts was a professional wrestling memorial show promoted by CyberFight's sub-brand Pro Wrestling Noah took place on May 31, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan, at the Korakuen Hall. The event aired on CyberAgent's AbemaTV online linear television service, CyberFight's streaming service Wrestle Universe and Triller TV. [2]
The event commemorated the life of Pro Wrestling Noah founder and legend Mitsuharu Misawa who passed away on June 13, 2009, at age 46, during a tag match in Hiroshima with Go Shiozaki against Akitoshi Saito and Bison Smith. [3] [4]
The event featured seven professional wrestling matches that resulted from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portrayed villains, heroes, or less distinguishable characters in the scripted events that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches. [5]
The event started with the singles confrontation between Hao and Seiki Yoshioka, solded with the victory of the latter. In the second match, Kenoh, Manabu Soya, Nio and Tadasuke picked up a victory over Junta Miyawaki, Kaito Kiyomiya, Kinya Okada and Yoshiki Inamura in eight-man tag team competition. The third bout saw Daisuke Harada and Hajime Ohara defeating Hayata and Yoshinari Ogawa to win the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship, ending the latter team's reign at 190 days and five successful defenses. Next up, Katsuhiko Nakajima and Masa Kitamiya defeated Mohammed Yone and Shuhei Taniguchi to secure the first successful defense of the GHC Tag Team Championship in that resepctive reign. In the fifth bout, Atsushi Kotoge defeated Yuya Susumu to secure the second consecutive defense of the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship in that resepctive reign. In the semi main event, Takashi Sugiura defeated Kazushi Sakuraba to secure the first successful defense of the GHC National Championship in that respective reign. [6]
In the main event, Keiji Muto and Masato Tanaka outmatched Masakatsu Funaki and Naomichi Marufuji in a friendly intra-stable tag team bout. [7] [8] [9] [10]
Kenta Kobashi is a Japanese professional wrestling promoter and retired professional wrestler. He started his career in All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) in 1988, where he became one of the promotion's top stars, holding the Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship three times, and winning the Champion Carnival in 2000. Kobashi left All Japan in June 2000, taking part in a mass exodus led by Mitsuharu Misawa, which led to the formation of Pro Wrestling Noah.
The Global Honored Crown (GHC) Heavyweight Championship is the professional wrestling world heavyweight championship created and promoted by Pro Wrestling Noah, which was merged with Japanese promotion DDT to form CyberFight in 2020. It is one of CyberFight's two top men's world titles, alongside the KO-D Openweight Championship in DDT Pro-Wrestling. The title was also defended on Impact Wrestling which has a working relationship with Pro Wrestling Noah. It was created on April 15, 2001 when Mitsuharu Misawa defeated Yoshihiro Takayama in a 16-man tournament final. Though its name implies a particular weight class, it has been periodically held by junior heavyweights, including Yoshinari Ogawa, Kenta, Naomichi Marufuji, Katsuhiko Nakajima and Kenoh. The current champion is Kaito Kiyomiya, who is in his third reign. He defeated El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. at Wrestle Magic on May 4, 2024, in Tokyo, Japan.
Yoshinari Ogawa is a Japanese professional wrestler who currently works for Pro Wrestling Noah. He has earned the nickname of "Rat Boy" from the English-speaking Puroresu fanbase due to his sneaky, clever in-ring tactics and baiting his opponents into quick pins, as well as the disheveled, greasy appearance he cultivated during the late-90's.
Naomichi Marufuji is a Japanese professional wrestler currently signed to Pro Wrestling Noah. Marufuji is a four-time GHC Heavyweight Champion, as well as the first of two men to win Junior Heavyweight Championships in all three major Japanese promotions. In 2009, he was appointed to the position of Vice President of Pro Wrestling Noah, and has retained the position since, being reappointed in September 2011. He also makes occasional appearances in other professional wrestling promotions including New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), Ring of Honor (ROH), and Impact Wrestling.
The Global Honored Crown (GHC) Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship is a professional wrestling tag team title in Japanese promotion Pro Wrestling Noah, contested exclusively among junior heavyweight wrestlers. It was created on July 16, 2003, when Kenta and Naomichi Marufuji defeated Jushin Thunder Liger and Takehiro Murahama in a tournament final. It is currently one of two tag team titles in Noah, along with the typically heavyweight GHC Tag Team Championship. Although the weight limit is, The Briscoe Brothers won the titles weighing slightly more than this on January 7, 2007.
Takashi Sugiura is a Japanese professional wrestler, currently working for Pro Wrestling Noah (Noah). Sugiura, an accomplished amateur wrestler, joined Noah's dojo in 2000, making his professional debut on December 23, 2000, and thus becoming the first wrestler to make his pro wrestling debut in Noah. He has also competed in mixed martial arts with a notable victory over Giant Silva. Sugiura wrestled as a junior heavyweight in his earlier pro career and is a former GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion. Sugiura moved up to heavyweight and became the second longest reigning GHC Heavyweight Champion, having held the title for 581 days between December 2009 and July 2011. As of September 2011, Sugiura is the chairman of Noah's Wrestler's Association and holds the concomitant position on the promotion's board of directors.
Kentaro Shiga is a Japanese professional wrestler, currently working as a freelancer. He returned from a two-year hiatus due to injury in 2005.
Satoshi Yoneyama, better known by his ring name Muhammad Yone, is a Japanese professional wrestler, currently working for Pro Wrestling Noah, where he is a multi-time GHC Tag Team Champion, a one time GHC Openweight Hardcore Champion and winner of the Global Tag League in 2012 with Naomichi Marufuji. He is known for his trademark afro hairstyle, which earned him the nickname "Mr. Afro".
Destiny was the first Destiny professional wrestling event produced by Pro Wrestling Noah. The event took place on July 18, 2005 at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan, and marked Noah's second event to take place in the arena, after 2004's Departure.
