The Indian Police Service is a civil service under the All India Services. It replaced the Indian Imperial Police in 1948, a year after India became independent from British Raj.
Gazetted officers include all the Indian Police Service officers which are Class I officers of the cadre and all State Police Services officers of and above the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police. All are arranged in a hierarchical order.

In the past, he was Police commissioner of Cyberabad Metropolitan Police from 25 August 2021 through 12 December 2023, and Inspector General of Police of West Zone also holding full additional charge as Deputy Inspector General of Police
Bayyarapu Prasada Rao was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1979 batch of the state of Andhra Pradesh who served as the Director General (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh Police. He was appointed in charge Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh on 30 September 2013. Earlier he served as the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, he was deputed as Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India which is one of the key posts after the Union Home Secretary. After his retirement he served as Professor in Physics and Director at Bharat Institutions, Hyderabad.
Prakash Singh is a retired Indian Police Service officer, who rose to the highest rank of Director General of Police (DGP). He has served as Chief of the Border Security Force (BSF), Uttar Pradesh Police and Assam Police. He is considered one of the best police officers for his role as key architect for Police reforms in India. After his retirement from service in 1996, he filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court of India. The landmark verdict of PIL came in 2006, in which the Supreme Court has given specific directions to the central and state governments to carry out structural changes in the police with a view to insulating it from extraneous pressures and making it accountable to the people.
The Telangana State Police Department is the law enforcement agency for the state of Telangana in India. It has jurisdiction concurrent with the 33 revenue districts of the state. The police force was created from the remnants of the Andhra Pradesh Police after Telangana state was formed. It is headed by the Director general of police, Ravi Gupta, and headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Rajeev Kumar is a former Director General of Police of the state of Jharkhand. He held highly responsible positions during his career. He is a 1981 batch IPS officer. He was appointed as the DGP Jharkhand in the year 2013 and served for two years thereafter. In the year 1997, he was awarded the President's Police Medal for Meritorious services and in the year 2014, he was also awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished services.
Nanduri Samba Siva Rao served as an Indian Police Service officer from 19 December 1984 – 31 December 2017. He secured AIR of 136 in UPSC with Physics and Mechanical Engineering as major subjects. He served as the Director general of police of Andhra Pradesh. Prior to DGP, he was vice-chairman, Managing Director of APSRTC where he was known for implementing revolutionary changes and improved customer service vastly. He was also the Director General of State Disaster Response and Fire Services in the undivided Andhra Pradesh from 2013 to 2015. He is widely known for his Project Management, Investigation Analysis and Motivational Talks. He was awarded Indian Police Medal in 2000, for his impeccable service in counter-insurgency operations. In 2010, on the occasion of Republic day, he received the President Police Medal, for his distinguished service. He believes in "Continuous Improvement" and "Everyday Learning".
Om Prakash Singh is a 1983 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. He was the Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police, and had previously served as the Director General of CISF and Director General of NDRF.
Anjani Kumar is an Indian Police Service officer who is former Director General of Police of Telangana. He took the charge on 31 December 2022 succeeding M Mahendra Reddy. He is a 1990 batch IPS officer of the Telangana cadre. He has also served with the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1998 - 99.
The National Industrial Security Academy is the premier training institution of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for training in industrial security and disaster management. The Academy is spread over 245-acre (99 ha) of land and is located in Hakimpet on the Rajiv Gandhi State Highway, Medchal–Malkajgiri District, of Hyderabad, Telangana.
Anjana Sinha is an Indian Police Service 1990-batch officer from Andhra Pradesh-cadre. She is currently on Government of India deputation to Central Industrial Security Force at the rank of Inspector General and serves as the director of National Industrial Security Academy, Hyderabad.
Nidigattu Sanjay, better known as N. Sanjay, is a Silver jubilee 1996-batch Regular Recruit (RR) Indian Police Service Officer belonging to Andhra Pradesh cadre. At present, Sanjay is the Chief of AP Criminal Investigation Department. He also holds full additional charges as Director-General of AP Disaster Response and Fire Services and as Director, AP Police Personnel and Training.
Mukul Goel is an Indian civil servant. He is the current Director General civil defence at Indian state Uttar Pradesh from May 2022 and had previously served as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Border Security Force. He was suspended by the erstwhile Mayawati's government in 2007 for alleged irregularities in police recruitment. He is 1987 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. On 11 May 2022 Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath removed Director General of Police Mukul Goel from his post for inefficiency and neglecting his work. At present he is working as DGP at UP Police.
Ram Pravaesh Thakur is an Indian police officer and former Andhra Pradesh DGP. He is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1986 batch of the Andhra Pradesh cadre. He was appointed as DGP on 1 July 2018 and served in the position till 1 June 2019. He is a B.Tech graduate from IIT Kanpur joined the Indian Police Service in 1986.
HJ Dora is a 1965 batch IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, the former Director General of Police, Andhra Pradesh and former Vigilance Commissioner, Government of India. Dora joined the Indian Police Service in 1965 and was allotted to Andhra Pradesh Cadre. After serving as an additional D.G. of Police (C.I.D.), in Andhra Pradesh, he was promoted to the Director General of Police for the State in 1996. In 2002 he went on deputation as Director General of Police to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in New Delhi. He also served as the president of Indian Olympic Weight Lifting Association and was also the Chef-de-mission of the Indian contingent to the 2006 Commonwealth Games. In 1993, Dora was one of the 40-odd policemen marked for death by the People's War Group (PWG).
M. B. Ranjit was an Indian Police Officer of Andhra Pradesh Police. He served for nearly four decades in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana areas. His career began in the latter half of the Sixties. Among the Police fraternity, he is known as a popular, systematic and sincere person, who earned a name for himself in Andhra Pradesh. He retired in 2000, putting in nearly four decades of policing.
