Tongo is the second most populous city in the district. Other major towns in Kenema District include Blama and Yomboma. The district is the most populous district in the Eastern province with a population 609,873. Kenema District has an area of 6,053 km2 (2,337 sq mi) and comprises sixteen chiefdoms.

Boajibu is a town in Kenema District, in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. It is the Chiefdom Headquarters of the Simbaru Chiefdom. The current Paramount Chief of Simbaru Chiefdom is P.C Madam Mamie G. Gamanga. The present population of Boajibu is about 7384 according to the 2004 Population and Housing Census of Sierra Leone.

Jawei Chiefdom is a chiefdom in Kailahun District of Sierra Leone with a population of 42,635. Its largest town and headquarters is Daru.

Blama is a town and the seat of Small Bo Chiefdom, Kenema District in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. Blama is located on the highway from Bo to Kenema, the largest city in Kenema District and the Eastern Province overall. Blama lies approximately twelve miles to Kenema, and about 170 miles south-east of Freetown.
