Wayne County is a county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,697. Its county seat is Wayne.
Norfolk is a city in Madison County, Nebraska, United States, 113 miles northwest of Omaha and 76 miles southwest of Sioux City, Iowa, at the intersection of U.S. Routes 81 and 275. The population was 24,955 at the 2020 census, making it the seventh-most populous city in Nebraska. It is the principal city of the Norfolk Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Wayne State College (WSC) is a public college in Wayne, Nebraska. It is part of the Nebraska State College System and enrolls 4,202 students. The college opened as a public normal school in 1910 after the state purchased the private Nebraska Normal College. The State Normal College became State Normal School and Teacher's College in 1921. The Cowboy Trail is a rail trail in northern Nebraska. It is a multi-use recreational trail suitable for bicycling, walking and horseback riding. It occupies an abandoned Chicago and North Western Railway corridor. When complete, the trail will run from Chadron to Norfolk, a length of 321 miles (517 km), making it the longest rails-to-trails conversion in the United States. It is Nebraska's first state recreational trail. The trail runs across the Outback area of Nebraska.

It has an enrollment of over 625 students, with a student to teacher ratio of 18:1. GHS offers a full range of academic courses as well as art, journalism and music programs. Many extracurricular after-school clubs and sports programs are available. The school was the first in the district to use block scheduling, the practice of having four one-and-a-half-hour classes that alternate every other day. In 2007 the Freshmen Academy was created to provide a transition for junior high students to high school.
