Northern Nash High School is a high school located in Nash County, west of the Rocky Mount, North Carolina city limits.

Contents

History

Northern Nash High School opened in 1966, consolidating the former Nashville High School, Red Oak High School, Benvenue High School and in its second year, Swift Creek High School. As such, it was one of the first integrated schools in Rocky Mount. [4]

Curriculum

Northern Nash offers Cisco Networking Academy courses in its technical education offerings. [5] A dual-enrollment program is offered in which students may enroll in some classes at nearby Nash Community College.

Band program

The band program has many ensembles during both the summer and the school year, including Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and Winterguard.

Billy Godwin is an American college baseball coach and former pitcher. He is the head baseball coach at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Godwin played college baseball at Atlantic Christian College in 1986. He was the head baseball coach of East Carolina from 2006 to 2014. In 2015, Godwin was listed as an area scout, based in Emerald Isle, North Carolina, for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Danny Talbott</span> American sportsman (1944–2020)

Joseph Daniel Talbott was an American professional football and baseball player. At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he was a quarterback for two seasons with the North Carolina Tar Heels football team and was named the ACC Player of the Year in 1966. Talbott also led the Tar Heels baseball team to the College World Series in 1966. He also played basketball for North Carolina on their freshmen team, but gave up the sport to concentrate on football and baseball. He was drafted in the 17th round of the 1967 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, but did not sign a contract with the team and played baseball professionally in the Baltimore Orioles's minor league system instead. His NFL draft rights were traded to the Washington Redskins for a 10th round draft pick on March 5, 1968, but during training camp he was called into active service duty for the United States Army Reserve and missed the entire season. He spent the 1969 season on the Redskins' taxi squad, and was released during final roster cuts before the start of the 1970 season on August 10, 1970.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Lisa Stone Barnes</span> American politician from North Carolina

Lisa Stone Barnes is an American businesswoman and politician. A member of the Republican Party, she was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 2018 after serving for six years on the Nash County board of commissioners. Rather than seek reelection, Barnes instead decided to instead run for the state senate in 2020, defeating former senator Allen Wellons.
