Northern Sidama is an administrative zone in Sidama Region. [1] The zone is formed up on resolution passed by Sidama regional state council at its third round meeting of the first year in 2022. [2] Northern Sidama is bordered on the south by Central Sidama Zone, on the north and east by the Oromia region and west by the Wolayita Zone. The administrative centre of Northern Sidama Zone is Hawassa.

The Sidama are an ethnic group traditionally inhabiting the Sidama Region, formerly part of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region of Ethiopia. On 23 November 2019, the Sidama Zone became the 10th regional state in Ethiopia after a zone-wide referendum. They speak the Sidama language, which is a language of the Cushitic branch of the Afroasiatic language family. Despite their large numbers, the Sidama lacked a separate ethnic regional state until continuous protests resulted in the proposal being voted on in a November 2019 referendum.

Gedeo is a zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State (SERS) of Ethiopia. This zone is named for the Gedeo people, whose homelands lie in this zone. Gedeo is an exclave of the SERS consisting of a narrow strip of land along the eastern escarpment of the Ethiopian Highlands. It is surrounded by the Oromia Region, which borders the Zone on the east, south and west; Gedeo shares its northern boundary with the Sidama Region. Dilla is the administrative center; other towns include Dilla, Wonago, Yirgachefe, Chelelekitu and Gedeb.

The Sidama Region is a regional state in southern Ethiopia. It was formed on 18 June 2020 from the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) and transformation of the Sidama Zone after a 98.52% vote in favour of increased autonomy in the 2019 Sidama referendum. It is the second smallest regional state in the country, after Harari. Sidama is the name of both the Sidama people and Sidama territory. Sidama is bordered to the south by the Oromia Region (except for a short stretch in the middle where it shares a border with Gedeo zone, in South Ethiopia Regional State, on the west by the Bilate River, which separates it from Wolayita Zone, and on the north and east by the Oromia Region. Towns in Sidama include Hawassa, the capital of Sidama and of SNNPR when it existed, Yirgalem, Wondogenet, Chuko, Hula, Bona, Bursa, Bensa, and Aleta Wendo. Sidama has a population of around 3.2 million in 2017 who speak the Cushitic language Sidama.

Dara is one of the woredas in the Sidama Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Sidama Region, Dara is bordered on the south by the Gedeo Zone and on either side of it by the Oromia Region, on the northwest by Chuko, on the north by Aleta Wendo, and on the northeast by Hula. Towns in Dara include Kebado, Teferi Kela Abera and Machisho.

Kokosa is one of the Aanaas in the Oromia of Ethiopia. Being part of the West Arsi Zone, Kokosa is bordered on the south and west by the Sidama Region, on the north by the Kofele, on the northeast by Dodola, and on the southeast by Nensebo. The administrative center of this woreda is Kokosa; other towns include Diki, Gata, BokoreHebano, Hogiso.

Nuer Zone Amharic Thok Naath, The Zone is founded in Gambela Region of Ethiopia. It was created from former Administrative Zone 3, Gambella Region. Location The zone it's located in western Gambella Town is bordered by South Sudan, on the Northern Baro River, Western Piwbör, and Southwestern Pibor River, on the east by Itang Special Woreda, on the South-East by Anuak Zone. The administration town called Nyinenyang, also have five administrator woreda Kuergeng Town, Kuach Thia̱ng Town, Nyinenyang Town, (Wanthɔa̱r)Matar Town and (Aköbä)Tiergol Town. Nuer Zone is within the Ethiopian lowlands and is flat at an elevation between 400–430 meters above sea level. The zone consists of grasslands, marshes and swamps with some forests. The economy is predominantly based on livestock. In 2006, there were no agricultural cooperatives, no documented roads, and little other Reference infrastructure. Both Jikaw and Akobo woredas are flooded during the rainy season, requiring the people to migrate to the highlands with their cattle until the waters recede; thus raising livestock is the primary source of income in this Zone.

The Southwest Ethiopia Region, officially the Southwest Ethiopia Peoples' Regional State is a regional state in southwestern Ethiopia. It was split off from the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) on 23 November 2021 after a successful referendum.

Bada or Hobicha Bada is a town in Wolaita, Ethiopia. Bada is an administrative capital of Hobicha woreda of Wolayita Zone. Bada town is located at a distance of 18 km away to the direction of North from Abala Abaya, 22 km away to the direction of South from Damot Weyde, 27 km away to the direction of Northwest from Sidama Region, 18 km away to the direction of Southeast from Sodo Zuria woreda, 21 km South east from Humbo woreda.

Ale or Alle is an administrative zone in South Ethiopia Regional State. In 2011 Ale was included in the Segen Area People's Zone. Ale demanded their own district for decades and secured woreda status in 2011. Before 2011, the Ale were a minority in the then Konso and Dirashe Special Woredas. Ale got Zonal status upon inauguration day of South Ethiopia Regional State in August 2023. The zone is named for the Ale people, whose homeland is in the zone. Ale is bordered on the North by Gamo Zone, on the East by the Gardula Zone, West by the South Omo Zone and South by the Konso Zone. The administrative centre of Ale Zone is Kolango.

Dimeka is a town in South Omo Zone, of South Ethiopia Regional State, Ethiopia. The elevation of the town in meter is 1757. The town is an administrative capital of Hamer and also South Omo Zone. Dimeka located at about 839 km from the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. The Hailemariam and Roman Foundation which helps women and children located in this town. The town is surrounded by pastoral and semi-pastoral communities.

Laska is a town in Basketo Zone, of South Ethiopia Regional State, Ethiopia. The elevation of the town in meter is 1,320. The town is an administrative capital of Laska Zuria woreda and also Basketo Zone. Laska is located at abaut 581 km from the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. The town is the home of the Basketo people. Laska has different infrastructures such as pure drinking water, health institutions and electric service.

Central Sidama Zone is an administrative zone in Sidama Region. The zone was established upon a resolution passed by the Sidama regional state council at its third round meeting of the first year in 2022. The zone was established around the end of 2022. Central Sidama is bordered on the south by the Southern Sidama Zone, on the east by the Oromia region, on the north by the Northern Sidama Zone on the southeast by the Eastern Sidama Zone, and west by the Wolayita Zone and Oromia region. The administrative centre of Central Sidama Zone is Irgalem.


Eastern Sidama is an administrative zone in Sidama Region. The zone is established up on resolution passed by Sidama regional state council at its third round meeting of the first year in 2022. Up on the establishment of the zone, the president of Sidama Region Desta Ledamo said that the name given to the zone Eastern Sidama is not intended to infer the location or direction of the zone, it also to avoid conflicts that may arise between the tribes in the region. Eastern Sidama is bordered on the south and north by Oromia region, on the north, south and east by the Oromia region and west by the Central Sidama Zone. The administrative centre of Northern Sidama Zone is Daye Bensa.
