The Northwest Territories is a federal territory of Canada. At a land area of approximately 1,144,000 km2 (442,000 sq mi) and a 2016 census population of 41,790, it is the second-largest and the most populous of the three territories in Northern Canada. Its estimated population as of 2023 is 45,668. Yellowknife is the capital, most populous community, and only city in the territory; its population was 19,569 as of the 2016 census. It became the territorial capital in 1967, following recommendations by the Carrothers Commission.
Kasba Lake is a lake in the northern Canadian wilderness. The majority of the lake lies within the Northwest Territories, but a small section is in Nunavut. The lake is close to Canada's four corners. A seasonal fishing lodge is open to tourists each summer.

The Challenge Trophy is a national amateur soccer cup in Canada contested by the champions of individual provincial soccer competitions. It is one of the oldest soccer competitions in Canada, being held since 1913. It is run by the Canadian Soccer Association.

Approximately 2,000 athletes, coaches, team staff and officials participated in the 2008 Arctic Winter Games in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in Canada, celebrating the 20th event. The 2008 games took place from March 9 through March 15. Events were held in and around the city of Yellowknife. This was the fourth time Yellowknife had hosted the games, and the fifth time overall in the Northwest Territories.
The Beaverhill Lake Group is a geologic unit of Middle Devonian to Late Devonian age in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin that is present in the southwestern Northwest Territories, northeastern British Columbia and Alberta. It was named by the geological staff of Imperial Oil in 1950 for Beaverhill Lake, Alberta, based on the core from a well that they had drilled southeast of the lake, near Ryley, Alberta.

Yellowknife FC is a football (soccer) club from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. The club sends a senior men's and senior women's team to represent the Northwest Territories at the Challenge Trophy and the Jubilee Trophy respectively. The Yellowknife FC Senior men's squad made its first appearance at the finals in 2011. The senior women entered in 2012. Every year the teams compete for a top-eight spot in the 12-team competition for men and the 10-team competition for women. Such a finish would give the Northwest Territories a better seeding the following year.

Katrina Nokleby is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in the 2019 election. She represented the electoral district of Great Slave, and she was elected to the territorial executive committee on October 24, 2019. Until August 2020 her Cabinet portfolio included Minister of Infrastructure, Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, and Minister Responsible for the Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission, but was removed from such ministerial positions by Premier Caroline Cochrane citing a “failure to manage her office”. On August 26, 2020 the Legislative Assembly voted 16 to 1 to remove Ms. Nokelby from cabinet.
