Norview High School is a public high school in central Norfolk, Virginia. Norview High School is one of the five local high schools that serve the city in the Norfolk Public Schools system. It is home of the Dodson Scholars Program and the Leadership Center for Science and Engineering program (or commonly referred to as LCSE). On February 2, 1959, Norview High School admitted its first African American students to attend the previously all-white school. These students were a part of the Norfolk 17, who were first to integrate schools in Virginia.

Kabisa Akili Maradufu Smith is an American former professional football player who was a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the 1999 NFL draft, the third quarterback in the first three choices, behind Tim Couch and Donovan McNabb. He played college football for the Oregon Ducks.

Michael Francis Sherman is an American gridiron football coach and former player who most recently was the head coach of the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL) from 2000 to 2005. Sherman led the Packers to five consecutive winning seasons from 2000 to 2004 and three divisional titles in 2002, 2003, and 2004, but never advanced past the divisional round of the playoffs. He was also the head football coach at Texas A&M University from 2008 to 2011. He has also been a coach in the NFL for the Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins. Before he started coaching in the NFL, he served as an assistant coach at five different colleges, including Texas A&M, where he coached the offensive line for seven seasons. He is one of only a few coaches that has been a head coach at the high school, college, CFL and NFL level.

Cornell Desmond Brown is an American football coach and former American college and professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons. He played college football for Virginia Tech, and earned All-American honors twice. Drafted late in the sixth round of the 1997 NFL draft, he played professionally for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. In 2013, Brown was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

Johnny Ray Holland is an American professional football coach and former player who is the linebackers coach for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). Holland played in the NFL as a linebacker for the Green Bay Packers from 1987 to 1993. He was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.

David Earl Martin is an American former professional football tight end who is currently the tight ends coach at Maryville College. He was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 2001 NFL draft. He also played for the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills. He played college football at Tennessee.

Leroy Rountree Hassell Sr., was a justice of the Virginia Supreme Court and the first African-American Chief Justice of that Court, serving two four-year terms from February 1, 2003, to January 31, 2011. He was succeeded as Chief Justice by Cynthia D. Kinser.

Theron Joseph Rubley is an American former professional football player who was a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL), World League of American Football (WLAF), and the Canadian Football League (CFL) during the 1990s. He played for the Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers, and Denver Broncos of the NFL, the Rhein Fire of the WLAF, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL.

Leroy Jones was an American professional football player who was a defensive end. He played the majority of his 11-year career with the San Diego Chargers in the National Football League (NFL).

Tommy Reamon is an African-American former professional football player, who has worked as an actor, and is currently an educator in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. As a high school football coach, Reamon has had some notable success in developing talent to become collegiate and professional football players among his students.

Robert Joseph Thalman was an American football and track coach. He served as the head football coach at Hampden–Sydney College from 1956 to 1959 and at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) from 1971 to 1984, compiling a career college football record of 80–103–4. He led the VMI Keydets to Southern Conference championships in 1974 and 1977. Thalman played football at the University of Richmond, from which he graduated in 1948.

Donovan Eaton Alexander is a former professional Canadian football defensive back. He was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the third round of the 2007 CFL Draft. He was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2008 and upon his release, signed with the Alouettes that same year. He later played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders for two seasons and the Edmonton Eskimos for three before signing with Winnipeg. In 2012, he was named a West All-Star with the Eskimos. He played college football at North Dakota. He retired in November, 2014.

Willie Harden Gillus is an American former gridiron football player and coach. He played professionally as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL). Gillus served as the head football coach at Norfolk State University from 2003 to 2004.

James Lavell Whitley is an American former professional football player who was a cornerback. He played college football at Michigan. He played professional football in the Canadian Football League (CFL), National Football League (NFL), and Arena Football League (AFL) from 2001 to 2008.

Daun Sessoms Hester is an American politician and educator. She served on the nonpartisan Norfolk, Virginia City Council 1996–2010, and was vice mayor 2004–08. She was a Democratic member of the Virginia House of Delegates, having won a special election on December 18, 2012, in the 89th district in Norfolk.
