Olympia Heist op den Berg is a Belgian ice hockey team in the city of Heist-op-den-Berg. They play in the newly formed BeNe-league, a joint league starting in the season 2015-2016, consisting of the top teams from the Netherlands and Belgium. The league consists of 16 teams, 10 from the Netherlands and 6 from Belgium.

History

The club was founded in 1959, and have won eleven Belgian Hockey League championships, second to Brussels Royal IHSC, which has won twenty-three titles. On their twentieth anniversary in 1979, Op den Berg won their first Belgian championship. Despite winning eleven national titles, the club has only won the Belgian Cup twice, in 1994 and 2010.

The 1989 Ice Hockey World Championships took place in Sweden from 15 April – 1 May. The games were played in Södertälje and Stockholm, in the newly built arena Globen. The Soviet Union became world champions for the 21st time, and also European champions for the 26th time.

Johannes Jacobus "Jan" van den Berg was a Dutch footballer who spent his entire career at HFC Haarlem. He was one of Haarlem's greatest club icons, being the big name at the club in the first 50 years, Haarlem's first (unofficial) international and (honorary) chairman of the club. He was also a member of the Dutch football squad that competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics, but he did not play in any matches.
