On Your Tail is an narrative mystery adventure life simulation video game developed by Italian indie studio Memorable Games and published by The Powell Group.

It was released on December 16, 2024 on Windows, which will be followed by a Nintendo Switch port scheduled for release in February 2025, [1] with the latter being a timed console exclusive. [2] [3]

Premise

The game follows the audacious ram writer Diana Caproni in the fictional picturesque Italian seaside village of Borgo Marina as she uncovers some of the area's mystifying local mysteries. [4]

Development

On Your Tail is developed by Memorable Games, an independent game development studio from Italy. [5] The game was first unveiled in Nintendo's Indie World showcase presentation in November 2023. [6] During Summer Game Fest 2024 in June, a limited-run playable demo was announced and made available on Steam, only until June 17. [7]

Original publisher Humble Games ceased operations in July 2024, with third-party company The Powell Group taking over publishing duties for future game launches. [8]

Reception

On Your Tail received "mixed or average" from critics, according to review aggregator Metacritic. [9]

Kyle LeClair from Hardcore Gamer rated the game 3.5 out of 5, praising the "colorful characters" and "gorgeous setting" whilst criticizing its "card-based mechanics during the detective segments a bit infuriating". [10]

<i>Fuga: Melodies of Steel</i> 2021 video game

Fuga: Melodies of Steel is a tactical role-playing video game developed and published by CyberConnect2. It is the fourth title in the company's Little Tail Bronx series and it serves as a prequel to Tail Concerto and Solatorobo: Red the Hunter. The game takes place in a war-torn world populated by anthropomorphic dogs and cats, where a group of children struggle for survival aboard a giant tank against soldiers from an enemy nation. It was released in July 2021 for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

In the video game industry, 2021 saw the release of many new titles. The numerous delays in software and hardware releases due to the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic heavily impacted development schedules, leading to several games being delayed into 2022 or even postponed indefinitely. Additionally, computer and console hardware were impacted by the combined effects of a semiconductor shortage and a rising growth of bitcoin mining that strained the supply of critical components.

In the video game industry, 2022 saw the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry, slowing hardware sales for most of the year as well as development delays for major titles. The industry continued its trend of acquisitions and mergers, highlighted by Microsoft announcing its plan to acquire Activision Blizzard for nearly $69 billion. Microsoft, after having satisfied worldwide regulatory bodies, completed its US$69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, making them the third largest game publisher in the world. Embracer Group, which had been in an acquisition spree over the previous few years, had an estimated $2 billion deal fall through, causing many of the studios under Embracer to either lay off staff or close entirely. Similar layoffs were seen at Unity, Amazon, ByteDance, Epic Games, Bungie, and Ubisoft, leading to over 9,000 jobs lost in the industry in 2023 and part of a larger trend of layoffs at technology companies in 2023.

Kunai is an action-platform video game developed by TurtleBlaze and published by The Arcade Crew. The game was released on February 6, 2020 for Windows and Nintendo Switch. In the game, the player controls Tabby, a robot tasked with defeating Lemonkus, an AI that nearly causes the extinction of humanity. In July 2020, The Arcade Crew partnered with Limited Run Games to release physical copies of the Nintendo Switch version. The physical copies were released in October 2020. Thirsty Suitors is an adventure video game developed by Outerloop Games and published by Annapurna Interactive. The game is about a young woman, Jala, who returns to her hometown for her sister's wedding and must navigate her relationships with her family and former paramours. The game was released on November 2, 2023, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Ports to Android and iOS published by Netflix is in development.

Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus is an action-adventure platform game developed by Squid Shock Studios and published by Humble Games, and published by Raredrop Games on home consoles. It was released on July 17, 2024, for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It was the final game Humble Games published before effectively being closed on July 23.
