Grove Street – Newark Penn Norfolk Street

Orange Street station is a surface-level light rail stop in the Roseville section of Newark, New Jersey. A stop on the Newark City Subway line of the Newark Light Rail, Orange Street is a single island platform stop on the south side of the eponymous street between First Street and Duryea Street. The stop is next to interchange 13 on Interstate 280 and serves the southern end of Branch Brook Park in Newark. The next station north is Park Avenue and the next station south is Norfolk Street. The station is accessible for handicapped persons as part of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, with access at Orange Street from the sidewalk.

Orange Street station opened on May 26, 1935 as part of the original Newark City Subway, a service between Heller Parkway station and Broad Street station (modern-day Military Park). [2] The station was built just eight blocks east of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad's Roseville Avenue station, which closed on September 16, 1984. [3]

History

The station was originally built by Public Service Corporation of New Jersey on May 26, 1935, and contained a connection to the Main Street line until March 30, 1952, when the route was converted into bus route no. 21. [4]

It is one of two stations on the line where the boarding platform is below ground level. The Watsessing station and the Kingsland station in Lyndhurst on the Main Line shared similar designs and were built about the same time.

Roseville Avenue was a transfer station on New Jersey Transit's Morris & Essex Lines in Newark, New Jersey, United States. The station was built by the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad in 1903 as part of a project to lower the tracks below the road surface to eliminate grade crossings. It serviced Newark's Roseville neighborhood. It once had two tracks on the Lackawanna mainline and two low-wall platforms, with an additional platform along the Montclair Branch. The station remained in service during most of the 20th century, until New Jersey Transit closed the station on September 16, 1984.

It was renamed on September 4, 2004, so only one station in the system would carry the name Broad Street when Downtown Newark's stations were connected by the Newark Light Rail line. Bloomfield Avenue station is an open-cut station on the Newark City Subway Line of the Newark Light Rail, located at Bloomfield Avenue on the west side of Branch Brook Park, near its main entrance. Connections are available here for Bloomfield Avenue bus service on four lines for service between Newark and Paterson, Wayne, Montclair, West Caldwell, and Parsippany-Troy Hills. The station has elevators allowing access to passengers with disabilities.

Branch Brook Park station is a light rail station in the Forest Hill neighborhood of Newark, New Jersey. The station services trains of the Newark Light Rail, operated by NJ Transit and is the last in the city of Newark heading westbound. The next station to the west is Silver Lake in Belleville. The next station to the south is Davenport Avenue. Branch Brook Park operates as an intermodal transportation hub, with two platforms for the light rail, one side platform and one island platform. There is also a third platform for bus services.

Silver Lake station is a surface-level light rail station operated by New Jersey Transit in Belleville, New Jersey. The station is the only one in Belleville, operating along the Grove Street–Newark Penn Station line of the Newark Light Rail. The station contains two low-level platforms that are off-centered. The Newark-bound platform is accessible from Franklin Street and nearby Heckel Street while the Grove Street-bound platform is accessible from nearby Belmont Avenue.

Grove Street station is a surface-level light rail stop in the Silver Lake section of Bloomfield, New Jersey. The station is the western terminus of the Newark City Subway section of the New Jersey Transit Newark Light Rail that heads to Penn Station in Newark. The vehicle maintenance facility is east of the station. Grove Street is a single island platform station with two tracks and is accessible for handicapped people as part of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. A 160-space park and ride lot is located one block from the station, after the loop track for the maintenance facility. Grove Street is also near the Watsessing Avenue station of New Jersey Transit's Montclair-Boonton Line.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ampere station</span>

Ampere, formerly known as The Crescent, is a defunct stop on New Jersey Transit's Montclair-Boonton Line in the city of East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. A station was first built there in 1890 to service to new Crocker Wheeler plant in the district. The stop was named in honor of André-Marie Ampère, a pioneer in electrodynamics and reconstructed as a new Renaissance Revival station in 1908. Ampere was the second stop on the branch west of Newark Broad Street Station until 1984, when the Roseville Avenue station was closed. In June of that year, the station, along with 42 others, was entered into the National Register of Historic Places. In 1986, after continuous deterioration, New Jersey Transit demolished the westbound shelter built in 1921. The agency discontinued rail service to Ampere on April 7, 1991. The entire station was demolished in 1995.

Fairmount Avenue is a former New Jersey Transit rail station on the Pascack Valley Line. The station was one of three rail stations in Hackensack, New Jersey, and was located at Fairmount Avenue and Temple Avenue. The Essex Street and Anderson Street stations are also located in Hackensack. The station house was built in 1870 as part of the extension railroad for the Hackensack and New York Railroad on a track extension from Anderson Street in Hackensack. The line became part of the Erie Railroad in 1896 and New Jersey Transit in 1983.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Montclair-Boonton Line</span> Commuter rail line in New Jersey

The Montclair-Boonton Line is a commuter rail line of New Jersey Transit Rail Operations in the United States. It is part of the Hoboken Division. The line is a consolidation of three individual lines: the former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad's Montclair Branch, which ran from Hoboken Terminal to Bay Street, Montclair; the Erie Railroad's Greenwood Lake Division, which originally ran from the Erie's Jersey City Terminal to Greenwood Lake, NY; and the former Lackawanna Boonton Line, which ran from Hoboken to Hackettstown, New Jersey. The Montclair-Boonton line was formed when the Montclair Connection opened on September 30, 2002. The line serves 28 active rail stations in New Jersey along with New York Pennsylvania Station. It crosses through six counties, serving six stations in the township of Montclair, two in the town of Bloomfield, and one in the city of Newark. Trains along the Montclair-Boonton Line heading eastward usually originate at Hackettstown, Mount Olive, Lake Hopatcong, Dover, or Montclair State University, bound for either Hoboken Terminal or New York Penn Station. On system maps the line is colored maroon and its symbol is a bird, after the state bird, the eastern goldfinch.
