Orvakal is a village and the headquarters of Orvakal mandal, located in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Orvakal is part of the Kurnool Urban Development Authority (KUDA) [2] and also situated along the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC).

Geography

The village is known for the Orvakal Rock Garden, featuring silica and quartz rock formations interspersed with water pools. [3] The Kethavaram Rock paintings, dating back to the Paleolithic era, are also located within the Orvakal Rock Formations. [4] [5]

Administration

Orvakal is a Gram panchayat, headed by a Sarpanch. It is part of the Panyam Assembly constituency in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, currently represented by Gowru Charitha Reddy of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). [6] Orvakal is also part of the Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency, which is represented by Byreddy Shabari, also from the TDP. [7]

The village falls under the Kurnool revenue division and is governed by a Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO), also known as the Tehsildar. Orvakal comes under the jurisdiction of the Kurnool civil court.

Transport

A four-lane section of National Highway 40 (NH40), formerly NH18 passes through Orvakal, providing road connectivity to Kurnool, Nandyal, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Tirupati, and Chennai. The nearest railway station is the Kurnool City railway station, situated in Kurnool. Orvakal is also home to the Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy Airport, which began operations on 25 March 2021. The airport currently offers flights to Bengaluru, Chennai, and Visakhapatnam. [8]

Health

Orvakal has a Community Health Center (CHC) serving both Orvakal and Kallur mandals.

Education

The primary and secondary school education is provided by government, aided, and private schools, under the state's School Education Department, with instruction in English and Telugu.

In 1996, Reddy was the Telugu Desam Party candidate against Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao in the Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency election. He served in the 11th, 12th and 13th Lok Sabhas. Reddy died in office on 12 March 2017 after a massive heart attack at his home in Allagadda.

Earlier, she served as a MLA from Nandikotkur constituency (2004-2009) and Panyam constituency (2014-2019). She was also a member of Women and Child welfare committee of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. She left the Indian National Congress party and joined the newly formed YSR Congress Party. Her husband, Gowru Venkata Reddy is also a political leader.

Buggana Rajendranath Reddy (born 27 September 1970) is an Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh. He is a two time MLA and also served as the Minister for Finance, Planning and Legislative Affairs in the Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's ministry. He has been nominated again by YSRCP to contest the Dhone Assembly seat in the 2024 Assembly Election.

Byreddy Shabari is an Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh. She was elected to the 18th Lok Sabha from Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency in Nandyal district representing Telugu Desam Party. She won the 2024 Indian general election in Andhra Pradesh with a margin of 111,975 votes.
