Orvakal is a village and a Mandal Head quarter of Orvakal Mandal in Kurnool district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. It also part of Kurnool Urban Development Authority. [2]

Geography

The village is home to the Orvakal Rock Garden, which are silica and quartz rock formations amongst pools of water. [3]

The Kethavaram Rock paintings, [4] from the Paleolithic era, are located along a stretch of the Orvakal Rock Formations. [5]

Transport

A four-lane road of NH40 [Old NH 18] passes through this village. It is well connected to Kurnool, Nandyal, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Tirupati and Chennai through road. Kurnool Railway station is the nearest railway station. The airport at Orvakal is to serve air transport needs of the people of Kurnool City. This Airport Opened on March 25, 2021. Currently Flights are running from Orvakal airport to Bangalore, Chennai and Visakhapatnam(Vizag). [6]

Politics

Orvakal is a part of Panyam (Assembly constituency) for Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. KATASANI RAMBHUPAL REDDY is the present MLA of the constituency from YSR Congress Party. [7] It is also a part of Nandyal (Lok Sabha constituency) which was won by POCHA BRAMHANANDA REDDY of YSR Congress Party. [8] [9]

Orvakal comes under Kurnool Revenue Division. Orvakal Mandal is headed by Mandal Revenue Officer [M.R.O.] also called Tehsildar.

Orvakal mandal has separate Section office in Orvakal Town, which monitors Complete Orvakal Mandal.

Orvakal mandal is connected with the help of Kurnool depot buses.

Education

The primary and secondary school education is imparted by government, aided and private schools, under the School Education Department of the state.[11][12] The medium of instruction followed by different schools are English, Telugu.

Bhuma Nagi Reddy was an Indian politician. He was elected in a by-election to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1992 after the sudden death of his brother, Bhuma Sekhar Reddy, an MLA from Allagadda constituency in Kurnool district. In 1996, Reddy was the Telugu Desam Party candidate against Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao in the Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency election. He served in the 11th, 12th and 13th Lok Sabhas. Reddy died in office on 12 March 2017 after a massive heart attack at his home in Allagadda.

Kamalapuram mandal is one of the 50 mandals in Kadapa district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is under the administration of Kadapa revenue division and the headquarters are located at Kamalapuram. The mandal is bounded by Yerraguntla, Proddutur, Chapad, Khajipet, Vallur, Pendlimarri and Veerapunayunipalle mandals.
