Oscar Cardenas (born August 11, 1982, in Havana) is a Cuban judoka, who played for the half-middleweight category. [1] He is a two-time national judo champion, and also, a bronze medalist for his respective category at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Cardenas qualified for the men's half-middleweight class (81 kg) at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, after claiming a bronze medal at the Pan American Qualifying Tournament in Miami, Florida. [2] He defeated Anthony Rodriguez of France, with a waza-ari (half-score point), in the first preliminary match, but lost his next match a few hours later, to Portugal's João Neto, who automatically scored an ippon at one minute and twenty-five seconds. [3]
Catherine Jacques is a Belgian judoka who competed in the middleweight category (70 kg). She is a multiple-time national champion, and a four-time bronze medalist for her category at the European Judo Championships. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Jacques missed out of the Olympic podium in the women's 70 kg category, after she was defeated by Germany's Annett Böhm, who scored an ippon within thirty-eight seconds, in the bronze medal match. She was able to fight back against her opponent for a rematch to capture the bronze medal, this time at the 2005 World Judo Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
Wang Chin-Fang is a Taiwanese judoka, who competed for the light middleweight category at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She is a two-time defending champion for her category at the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand, and at the 2009 Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia. She also won two medals each at the Asian Games and at the Asian Judo Championships.
João Gabriel Schlittler is a Brazilian judoka, who played for the heavyweight category. In 2007, he won a silver medal for his designated category at the Pan American Games, and bronze at the World Championships, coincidentally in his home city. Schlitter stands 1.97 metres tall and weighs 110 kilograms (243 lb). He is also currently a member of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, a famous sport club in Rio de Janeiro.
