Oulu sub-region is a subdivision of Northern Ostrobothnia and one of the Sub-regions of Finland since 2009. The Oulu region has a population of 260,091, making it the fourth largest region in Finland after Helsinki, Tampere and Turku. [1]

The population density is 11.94 inhabitants per square kilometre (30.9/sq mi). Oulainen is founded in 1865, and it received township rights in 1977.

Villa Hannala is a historic villa in Toppilansaari, Oulu, Finland. Located at Kahvelitie 1, the villa was built in 1859 for the Snellman family. Decorations and a tower were added in the 1890s. After surviving the threat of demolition, the building became property of the city of Oulu. In 2004–2007 it was renovated by the adult educational centre of Oulu Polytechnic. Today, the villa is almost fully restored. A café was established for visitors.

Oulujoki is a former municipality of Finland. The municipality had a population of 5,230 (1963) and covered a land area of 606.1 square kilometres (234.0 sq mi). Its neighbouring municipalities were Kempele, Kiiminki, Muhos, Oulu, Tyrnävä, Utajärvi and Ylikiiminki. The municipality was named after the river Oulujoki.
