Oulu sub-region is a subdivision of Northern Ostrobothnia and one of the sub-regions of Finland since 2009. The Oulu region has a population of 264,143, making it the fourth largest region in Finland after Helsinki, Tampere and Turku. [1]

Lapland is the largest and northernmost region of Finland. The 21 municipalities in the region cooperate in a Regional Council. Lapland borders the Finnish region of North Ostrobothnia in the south. It also borders the Gulf of Bothnia, Norrbotten County in Sweden, Finnmark County and Troms County in Norway, and Murmansk Oblast and the Republic of Karelia in Russia. The topography of Lapland varies from vast mires and forests in the south to fells in the north. The Arctic Circle crosses Lapland, so polar phenomena such as the midnight sun and polar night can be viewed in this region.

Hailuoto is a Finnish island in the northern Baltic Sea and a municipality in Northern Ostrobothnia region. The population of Hailuoto is 924, making it the smallest municipality in Northern Ostrobothnia and the former Oulu Province in terms of population. The municipality covers an area of 205.65 km2 (79.40 sq mi) of which 1.70 km2 (0.66 sq mi) is inland water. The population density is 4.49/km2 (11.6/sq mi). Of all the Finnish sea islands, Hailuoto is the third largest after Fasta Åland and Kimitoön.

Utajärvi is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the Northern Ostrobothnia region next to the border of the Kainuu region, and is part of the former province of Oulu. It is 58 kilometres (36 mi) from Utajärvi to Oulu and 125 kilometres (78 mi) to Kajaani. The municipality has a population of 2,479 (31 October 2024) and covers an area of 1,736.73 square kilometres (670.56 sq mi) of which 65.55 km2 (25.31 sq mi) is water. The population density is 1.48 inhabitants per square kilometre (3.8/sq mi). The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Villa Hannala is a historic villa in Toppilansaari, Oulu, Finland. Located at Kahvelitie 1, the villa was built in 1859 for the Snellman family. Decorations and a tower were added in the 1890s. After surviving the threat of demolition, the building became property of the city of Oulu. In 2004–2007 it was renovated by the adult educational centre of Oulu Polytechnic. Today, the villa is almost fully restored. A café was established for visitors.

Its neighbouring municipalities were Kempele, Kiiminki, Muhos, Oulu, Tyrnävä, Utajärvi and Ylikiiminki. The municipality was named after the river Oulujoki.
