Outrage (stylized as OUTRAGE) is a Japanese thrash metal band, formed in Nagoya in 1982. They made their debut in 1987 with a lineup of Yosuke Abe on guitar, Yoshihiro Yasui on bass, Shinya Tange on drums and Naoki Hashimoto on vocals. Hashimoto left the band in 1999, but the group continued as a three piece and he returned in 2007. With a career spanning over four decades, Outrage are one of few Japanese metal bands to have never disbanded or paused activities. [2]

History

Formed in 1982 by guitarist Yosuke Abe, bassist Yoshihiro Yasui, drummer Shinya Tange and vocalist Kazutoyo Ito when they were teenagers, [3] Outrage was influenced by new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) bands in their early years. [4] Ito left in 1986 and was replaced by Naoki Hashimoto. [3] After independently releasing their self-titled debut EP in 1987, Outrage's first album Black Clouds followed in 1988 on Polydor Records. [3] Their second Blind to Reality was released in 1989, and their third The Great Blue in 1990.

For 1991's The Final Day, Outrage traveled to Germany to have it produced by Accept drummer Stefan Kaufmann. [5] In 1992, they were the support act for Pantera's first Japanese tour. [3] Outrage switched labels to East West Japan with the release of 1993's Spit. Their next two albums, 1995's Life Until Deaf and 1997's Who We Are, were both produced by Michael Wagener. [5] [6] In 1999 singer Hashimoto left the band, but they continued as a three piece with Yasui and Abe sharing vocals. [6] [7] During this period their music changed to a hard rock/stoner rock sound for 2002's 24-7 and 2004's Cause For Pause, [6] signing to Victor Entertainment for the latter.

To celebrate the band's 20th anniversary in 2007, Naoki Hashimoto returned for what was supposed to be a few performances, including one at Loud Park '07. [7] But the following year it was announced he would fully rejoin Outrage and they released the limited edition double live album Awakening 2008, which contains performances of their albums The Final Day and Life Until Deaf in their entirety. [8] They also contributed a cover of "Fight Fire with Fire" to the Metallica tribute album Metal-Ikka. [9] In 2009 they released a new self-titled album, which was recorded in Sweden with Fredrik Nordström and marked a return to their thrash sound. [7] [10] On March 23, 2010, the band was given the "Aichi Prefecture Cultural Art Prize" for their continued musical activities in their hometown of Nagoya. [11] Outrage collaborated with mixed martial arts promotion Deep for the October 24, 2010 digital song "Dial 'A' Annihilate (Deep Fighters VS Outrage)" to celebrate their 50th tournament. The song features several Deep fighters on backing vocals, including then-current champions Yusuke Kawaguchi, Riki Fukuda, Yuya Shirai and Katsunori Kikuno. [12]

Now with Universal, the band released the album Outraged on June 5, 2013, once again working with Nordström. [13] Outrage performed at the Yoko Fest The Final concert on September 12, 2014 in tribute to the recently deceased bassist of fellow thrash metal band United. [14] The group teamed up with Loudness to hold the first Loud∞Out Fest on May 2, 2015. [15] Outrage released the album Genesis I on October 7. It is split into two sides; the Genesis Side composed of covers of songs by early Japanese rock bands such as Happy End, The Mops, Blues Creation and Gedō, and the Exploring Side containing original material. [16]

In 2016, the second Loud∞Out Fest was held on May 1 and also included Anthem and Lost Society in addition to the two namesake acts. [17] Outrage were one of 100 acts that provided a song for the video game Let It Die . [18] With 2017 marking the 30th anniversary since their debut EP, Outrage celebrated the occasion in several ways. The 2 CD/1 DVD compilation set XXX Box was released on February 16. [19] The 2017 edition of the Loud∞Out Fest was called a "tour" and saw two concerts on May 4 and 6 that included Galneryus. [20] Outrage held their own festival for their anniversary called Gokuaku-sai (極悪祭) on July 23 that included Cocobat, Casbah, Doom, Angel Witch, Singo Otani (United), Hideki Ishima and themselves. [21] The band released their thirteenth album Raging Out, which was mixed by Peter Tägtgren, on October 11. [22]

In 2019, Outrage celebrated the 40th anniversary of the NWOBHM. They released a cover of Jaguar's "Axe Crazy" as a limited edition 7-inch vinyl EP, backed with a cover of "Baphomet" by Angel Witch, on April 24. [23] Their fourteenth studio album, Run Riot, was released on April 15, 2020. To celebrate the band's 35th anniversary in 2022, they released a compilation album on April 20, held a special concert with an orchestra on April 24, and released a film based on the band in May. [24] The film, Hagane Iro no Sora no Kanata he (鋼音色の空の彼方へ), is based on the story of Outrage and drafted by music critic Masanori Ito. [25] The album, Square, Triangle, Circle & Future, compiles songs from their career, including a demo with original vocalist Kazutoyo Ito and two new tracks written for the film. [26]

doa (バンド) is a Japanese rock band. The band is named after a single letter of each of the members' names: Daiki Yoshimoto, Shinichiro Ohta, and Akihito Tokunaga. They debuted in 2004 under recording company and label Giza Studio. In 2023, they left the company and became independent. In August 2024, they announced their intent to disband at the end of the year.

D'erlanger is a Japanese rock band from Kyoto Prefecture, formed in 1983 by guitarist Cipher and bassist Seela. While they originally played speed and power metal, after recruiting drummer Tetsu and vocalist Kyo they switched to a punk rock sound for their debut album La Vie En Rose in 1989. Although it was on an indie label, it sold out and was reissued three times that year, earning them a major label record deal with BMG Japan the following year. They released Basilisk in March 1990 and it reached the top five on the charts. However, in December the group suddenly announced their disbandment.

Shinsei Kamattechan (神聖かまってちゃん) is a Japanese rock band from Chiba, formed in 2007. The band consists of Noko, Mono, Misako (drums) and Yūnosuke. They describe themselves as an "Internet Pop Rock Band", which reflects the blend of pop melodies and piano with dark lyrics and punk rock sensibilities found within their music, as well as the band's long history of broadcasting both live performances and aspects of their daily lives on the Internet.

Luke Takamura is a Japanese musician, singer, and songwriter. He is best known as guitarist of the heavy metal band Seikima-II from 1987 to 1999, and for various temporary reunions since. From 2002 to 2020, he was the lead singer and guitarist of the rock trio Canta. Luke was voted the tenth greatest Japanese guitarist in a 2019 poll held by goo. He has cited Yuji Adachi, Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen and Kazumi Watanabe as guitar influences.

Aldious is a Japanese heavy metal band from Osaka, formed in 2008 by guitarist Yoshi and vocalist Rami. After a few member changes, they released their debut EP Dear Slave the following year and soon after formed their own record label, Bright Star Records. A stabilized line-up including guitarist Toki, bassist Sawa and drummer Aruto was established by 2010. Their first album Deep Exceed (2010) reached the top 15 on the Oricon chart, as did their second Determination (2011). However, Rami announced she was leaving the group in June 2012 and new vocalist Re:NO joined Aldious just one month later. They produced their third album District Zero in 2013 and it became their highest-charting release to date, reaching number 7.

Suchmos is a Japanese rock group formed in 2013. Suchmos was inspired by African-American music such as rock, jazz, and hip-hop. The band's name, Suchmos, is adapted from a jazz musician Louis Armstrong’s nickname, “Satchmo”.

Mary's Blood was a Japanese all-female heavy metal band from Tokyo, formed in 2009 by four former members of Destrose. It consists of vocalist Eye, drummer Mari, guitarist Saki and bassist Rio since 2012. After releasing three EPs as an independent band, they signed to Nippon Columbia for their first album, Countdown to Evolution (2014). Mary's Blood then switched to Victor Entertainment for the release of Bloody Palace (2015) and Fate (2016). They signed to Tokuma Japan Communications in 2018 and released three further studio albums, including their highest-charting, Confessions (2019). Mary's Blood began an indefinite hiatus on April 9, 2022.

Lovebites is a Japanese heavy metal band, formed in 2016 by former Destrose members Miho and Haruna. Its lineup currently consists of Haruna on drums, Midori and Miyako on guitar, Asami on vocals, and Fami on bass. After signing to Victor Entertainment, the group released both their debut EP and their first album in 2017, The Lovebites EP and Awakening from Abyss, before performing their first overseas concerts at the end of the year. With another EP and album released in 2018, Battle Against Damnation and Clockwork Immortality, Lovebites quickly garnered international attention and won that year's Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best New Band. Following the releases of Electric Pentagram (2020) and Glory, Glory, to the World (2021), bassist Miho left the band in August 2021. After a year-long hiatus, Lovebites recruited Fami on bass and released Judgement Day, their fourth album, in February 2023. It is their highest-charting record to date, reaching number 5 on both the Oricon and Billboard Japan charts.

Dps is a Japanese rock band under the Giza Studio label. They've formed in 2017 and made major debut with the single "Timeline". The song served as an theme song to the anime television series Detective Conan.

<i>Vulgar</i> (album) 2003 studio album by Dir En Grey

Vulgar is the fourth studio album by Japanese heavy metal band Dir En Grey released on September 10, 2003 in Japan and on February 21, 2006 in Europe. A limited edition containing an additional DVD was also released. It featured the video of the song "Obscure", albeit a censored version. Vulgar is the first Dir En Grey release not to feature individual credits for the music, though the preceding singles featured individual credits.

Rami is a Japanese heavy metal singer and lyricist. She first rose to prominence as vocalist and co-founder of the all-female power metal band Aldious from 2008 to 2012. After a hiatus, she resumed musical activities in 2015 as the vocalist of the group Raglaia, before starting a solo career in 2016.

The discography of Mucc includes 17 studio albums, three live albums, five extended plays, 48 singles, 15 demos and 35 video albums. They are a Japanese visual kei rock band, formed in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1997. When original bassist Hiro left in 1999, the classic line up of Tatsuro on vocals, Miya on guitar, Yukke on bass, and Satochi on drums was solidified. Antique, their debut EP, was released in 1999 by Misshitsu Neurose, an independent record label formed by Cali Gari guitarist Ao Sakurai. Mucc signed to Danger Crue Records and established their own sublabel, Shu, for the 2002 release of their second album, Hōmura Uta. The band made their major label debut on Universal with Zekū the following year. In 2009, they returned to being an indie band on Danger Crue, before signing to Sony for 2012's Shangri-La. With the end of 2017, Mucc returned to being an independent band on Danger Crue yet again. After 24 years, Satochi retired from the music industry in October 2021, leaving Mucc a trio. They made their third major label debut on Tokuma Japan Communications in 2024.

Unlucky Morpheus is a Japanese symphonic power metal band formed in 2008. It consists of vocalists Fuki and Kasumi, guitarists Shiren and Jinya, bassist Ogawa Hiroyuki, drummer Fumiya Morishita, and violinist Jill. Their latest album, "Evolution", was released in 2022.
