A Trotskyist in his youth,he was a founding member of the Revolutionary Marxist League. He is also known for working to develop social,medical,educational and religious institutions for Tibetan nomads in eastern Tibet,as an advocate for environmental conservation in the face of indiscriminate logging and mining projects,and as a mediator between Tibetans and Chinese.
Zhou Yongkang is a former senior leader of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). He was a member of the 17th Politburo Standing Committee (PSC),China's highest decision-making body,and the Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission (Zhengfawei) between 2007 and 2012,making him one of the most powerful leaders in China. In that position,Zhou oversaw China's security apparatus and law enforcement institutions,with power stretching into courts,prosecution agencies,police forces,paramilitary forces,and intelligence organs. He was convicted of corruption-related charges in 2014 and expelled from the CCP in the same year.
Suining (simplified Chinese:遂宁;traditional Chinese:遂寧;Sichuanese Pinyin:Xu4nin2;Sichuanese pronunciation:;pinyin:Sùiníng;Wade–Giles:Sui-ning) is a prefecture-level city of eastern Sichuan province in Southwest China. According to the 2020 census,Suining had a population of 2,814,196,with 1,612,641 living in built up(or metro) areas.

The 2011 crackdown on dissidents in China refers to the arrest of dozens of mainland Chinese rights lawyers,activists and grassroots agitators in a response to the 2011 Chinese pro-democracy protests. Since the protests,at least 54 Chinese activists have been arrested or detained by authorities in the biggest crackdown on dissent since the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre. Since the start of the protests in mid-February 2011,human rights groups have claimed that more than 54 people have been arrested by authorities,some of whom have been charged with crimes. Among those arrested are bloggers who criticise the government such as Ai Weiwei,lawyers who pursue cases against the government,and human rights activists.

Ding Mao,born in Mianyang,Sichuan on 9 November 1968,is a Chinese dissident. As a student,he was one of the leaders of the student democracy movement,known through the Tiananmen Square 1989 protest. He became general manager of an investment company,and one of the founders of the unrecognized Social Democratic Party. Mao was recently detained on 19 February 2011,and held at Mianyang Municipal Detention Center before being released into residential surveillance on 2 December 2011.

Xu Mengjia is a former Chinese politician who spent most of his career in Southwest China's Sichuan province. He was investigated by the Chinese Communist Party's anti-graft agency in December 2013. Previously he served as the Communist Party Secretary of Ya'an.
Wang Yi,pen name Wang Shuya,is the founding pastor of the Early Rain Covenant Church,a Calvinist house church in Chengdu. He is also a productive writer,editor,and social activist,and was a legal scholar at Chengdu University before he resigned to take up the pastorate.
Hu Changsheng is a Chinese politician currently serving as Communist Party Secretary of Gansu and Chairman of the People's Congress of Gansu Province. He joined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in January 1986,and entered the workforce in July of that same year. He is an alternate member of the 19th CCP Central Committee.
Early Rain Covenant Church is a house church within the Reformed Presbyterian tradition based in the Sichuanese provincial capital city of Chengdu,southwestern China. It was established as Early Rain Blessings Fellowship by Pastor Wang Yi and his wife,Jiang Rong,in their own home in Chengdu,in April 2005. The small congregation has evolved into a house church three years later,and since then it had been variously known as Early Rain Blessings Church,Early Rain Reformed Church and Early Rain Reformed Presbyterian Church before adopting its current name.
