Oxegen 2013 was the ninth Oxegen festival to take place since 2004. It took place on the weekend of Friday 2 August, Saturday, 3 August and Sunday, 4 August at Punchestown Racecourse near Naas in County Kildare, Ireland. [1]
Oxegen was a music festival in Ireland, first held from 2004–2011 as a rock and pop festival and again in 2013 with dance and chart acts only. The event was regularly cited as Ireland's biggest music festival, and, by 2009, it was being cited as the greenest festival, being a 100% carbon neutral event in Ireland. It was previously called Witnness, which ran from 2000 and was sponsored by Guinness. The event is promoted by MCD and is sponsored by Heineken. Oxegen was originally a three-day festival, but from 2008 onwards, it was expanded to four days.
Punchestown Racecourse is located in the parish of Eadestown, between the R410 and R411 regional roads near Naas, County Kildare, in Ireland. It is known as the home of Irish Jumps Racing and plays host to the annual Punchestown Irish National Hunt Festival. The racecourse itself is right handed with an undulating hurdle and steeplechase track. The hurdle course is one mile six furlongs in distance while the chase course is 2 miles. Punchestown Racecourse also has the only cross country banks course in Ireland.
Naas is the county town of County Kildare in Ireland. In 2016, it had a population of 21,393, making it the second largest town in County Kildare after Newbridge.
It was confirmed on the official Oxegen website in April 2013 that the festival would return to the Irish festival line-up this summer, after a one-year hiatus in 2012. [2]
On 22 April an announcement was made to confirm the first set of acts playing. Confirmed were Calvin Harris, Rizzle Kicks, Jack Beats, Duke Dumont, Example, Pitbull, Nero. On 24 April David Guetta was announced as one of the headline acts along with Example and Snoop Dogg. [3] [4]
Adam Richard Wiles, known professionally as Calvin Harris, is a Scottish DJ, record producer, singer, and songwriter from Dumfries. He is best known for his singles "We Found Love", "This Is What You Came For", "Summer", "Feel So Close", and "Feels". His collaboration single with Rihanna, "We Found Love", became an international success, giving Harris his first number one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. He has released five studio albums and runs his own record label, Fly Eye Records, which he founded in 2010.
Rizzle Kicks are a British hip hop duo from Brighton consisting of Jordan "Rizzle" Stephens and Harley "Kicks" Alexander-Sule. Their debut album, Stereo Typical, was released on 31 October 2011. As of May 2012, Rizzle Kicks have sold over 1 million singles and over 600,000 albums in the UK.
Jack Beats is an English electronic-music duo from London, formed in 2007 by DJ Plus One and Beni G. They are also multiple DJ champions and award-winning DJs. The duo is known for wobbly basslines, big breakdowns and edgy a capellas which are cut, copied and pasted together.
There was rain on the Saturday with around 25,000 fans present and more than 600 gardai and 1,000 stewards patrolling the site. [5]

The Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) is a world-traveling series of music workshops and festivals, founded in 1998 by Red Bull. The main five-week event is held in a different city each year. The public portion of its program is a festival of concerts, art installations, club nights and lectures by influential figures in contemporary music. The other part of the program is by invitation only, held in a building which has been custom-fitted with a large recording studio, a lecture hall, a radio booth and between eight and twelve bedroom-sized studios.
