P. Gopikumar (12 July 1943 - 19 October 2020) was a Malayalam film director. [1]

Career

He made his debut with the Kamal Haasan starrer Ashtamangalyam in 1977. Gopikumar has directed ten films. [2] His brothers P. Chandrakumar and P Sukumar are also Malayalam film directors. [3] [4] [5]

Gopikumar's major films were Harshabashpam , Manoradham , Pichipoo , Ival Oru Naadody and Thaliritta Kinakkal starring Bollywood actors Tanuja and Madhu Malini, that also had a sound track of Mohammed Rafi. [6] His 1981 film Kaattupothu starring Madhu and Shankar that had chartbusters, failed to get a theatrical release.

Gopikumar's tried to make a comeback with Saudhamini (2003), a film he directed after 22 years, starring Jagadish, Krishna and Captain Raju failed at the box office. [7]

Death

P.Gopikumar died at Palakkad due to decrepitude. [8] [9] [10]

Mahalakshmi Menon, best known by her stagename Shobha, was an Indian actress best known for her work in Malayalam and Tamil films. At the age of 17, she won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the 1979 Tamil film Pasi. She also received three Kerala State Film Awards: for Best Actress (1978), Best Supporting Actress (1977) and Best Child Artist (1971); and two Filmfare Awards South for Best Actress in Kannada (1978) and Tamil (1979) films. Considered one of the finest talents to have emerged in the Indian film world, her promising career was unexpectedly cut short as she committed suicide in 1980, due to unknown reasons. Mullamangalath Parameshwaran Bhattathiripad, commonly known as M. P. Bhatathirippad or Premji, was a social reformer, cultural leader and actor from Kerala state, India. Premji joined Yogakshema Sabha and worked with V. T. Bhattathiripad, E. M. S. Namboodiripad and his brother M. R. Bhattathiripad in the fight against the casteism and conservatism that existed in the Nambudiri community. Premji was also a noted stage and film actor who won the National Film Award for Best Actor for the film Piravi.

K. Velayudhan Nair, better known by his stage name Crossbelt Mani, was an Indian film director and cinematographer, who worked in the Malayalam cinema. He directed more than 40 Malayalam movies and worked as a cinematographer for ten movies. He became popular with his second movie Cross Belt in 1970 and adopted Crossbelt to his name. Veteran director Joshiy worked as an assistant director under him.

<i>Ival Oru Naadody</i> 1979 Indian film

Ival Oru Naadody is a 1979 Indian Malayalam-language film directed by P. Gopikumar. The film stars Jayabharathi, Sukumaran, Raghavan and Bhavani. The film has a musical score by S. D. Sekhar.

K. P. Pillai was an Indian Malayali film director who worked mainly in Malayalam films. He made his film debut as an assistant director in Ramu Kariat's film Abhayam in 1970. He directed Nagaram Sagaram, Vrindavan (1975), Ashtamudikkayal (1977), Kathir Mandapam (1978), Pathira Sooryan (1980) and Priyasakhi Radha (1981).

Anandakuttan was an Indian cinematographer who worked predominantly in Malayalam cinema. He worked on over 150 films including His Highness Abdullah, Bharatham, Kamaladalam, Sadayam, Chronic Bachelor, Akashadoothu, Harikrishnans, Punjabi House and Aniyathipraavu. He died in 2016, at the age of 61.
