Samakalika Malayalam Vaarika is a Malayalam language newsweekly and website published by The Express Publications Madurai (P) Ltd, publisher of The New Indian Express daily. The publication, conceived as a newsweekly, is a leading voice in the cultural and political sphere of Kerala.

History

When the weekly was started in May 1997 veteran journalist S. Jayachandran Nair was at the helm as Editor. He continued in that position until 2012. Currently, it is led by a team headed by its Editor Saji James, with TJS George, a renowned figure both in English and Malayalam journalism is the editorial advisor. [2]

M. Krishnan Nair was an Indian academic, orator, literary journalist and literary critic of Malayalam literature. He was a recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contributions and the B. D. Goenka Award for excellence in literary journalism.

S. Jithesh, popularly known as Dr. Jitheshji, is an internationally acclaimed performing speed cartoonist and former Vice-Chairman of Kerala Cartoon Academy. Dr. Jitheshji is recognized as a world wonder in the fields of speed sketch and memory. He is particularly renowned for his exceptional abilities as a speed performing cartoonist. Additionally, he was a celebrity speaker at the TEDx event at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on 10 August 2024. His birthday is on 30 December. Madhusoodanan Jayachandran Nair is an Indian composer, singer, and musician. He has won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director a record number of nine times. <i>Odiyan</i> 2018 film by V. A. Shrikumar Menon

Odiyan (transl. Shapeshifter) is a 2018 Indian Malayalam-language fantasy drama film directed by V. A. Shrikumar Menon in his feature film debut. The film was written by Harikrishnan and is based on the legend of the Odiyan clan, who in Kerala folklore are men believed to possess shapeshifting abilities and can assume animal forms. Odiyans are said to have inhabited the Malabar region of Kerala before the widespread use of electricity. The film stars Mohanlal in the title role, alongside an ensemble cast of Prakash Raj, Manju Warrier, Siddique, Innocent, Manoj Joshi, Sana Althaf, Kailesh, Narain, Sreejaya Nair and Nandhu Krishnamoorthy. It was produced by Antony Perumbavoor through Aashirvad Cinemas. Manikyan, a notorious Odiyan, returns to his village after an exile of 15 years to see his lover once, including his friends, Damodharan and more over, Manikyan's girlfriend Prabha. His arrival causes much unease to some of the villagers, especially Ravunni Nair, Prabha's cousin brother, who has a personal grudge against him.

Sunil Naliyath is a Malayalam language writer and translator from Kerala, India. He translated many noted literary works in Bengali to Malayalam. He received many awards including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Translation in 2014 and the Sahitya Akademi Award for Translation in 2022.

Balakrishnan Award, K. C. Sebastian Award, M. V. Pylee Journalism Award, K. Vijayaraghavan Smaraka Puraskaram and C. H. Mohammed Koya Journalism Award.
