Bhashaposhini was first published in 1892 [1] as a literary journal of the Bhashaposhini Sabha. [2] The founding editor was Kandathil Varghese Mappillai. [2] [3] In 1895, it merged with another magazine Vidyavinodini . However, after three years, in 1897, resumed as an independent journal again. It continued to be an important and authentic periodical until 1942. After a long break, in 1977 June, the magazine was revived by the Malayala Manorama [1] group of publications. It is one of the significant Malayalam periodical that is published monthly. [1]

Vallathol Narayana Menon was a poet in the Malayalam language, which is spoken in the south Indian state of Kerala. He was one of the triumvirate poets of modern Malayalam, along with Kumaran Asan and Ulloor S. Parameswara Iyer. The honorific Mahakavi was applied to him in 1913 after the publication of his MahakavyaChitrayogam. He was a nationalist poet and wrote a series of poems on various aspects of the Indian freedom movement. He also wrote against caste restriction, tyrannies and orthodoxies. He founded the Kerala Kalamandalam and is credited with revitalising the traditional Keralite dance form known as Kathakali.

Kottarathil Sankunni was an Indian writer of Malayalam literature. Best known as the author of Aithihyamala, an eight-volume compilation of century-old legends about Kerala, Sankunni's writings cover prose and poetry, including verses for Kathakali and Ottan Thullal. He was one of the founding members of Bhashaposhini Sabha founded by Kandathil Varghese Mappillai and was also involved with Bharata Vilasam Sabha, another literary initiative. He died on July 22, 1937.

Ayyappa Paniker, sometimes spelt "Ayyappa Panicker", was a Malayalam poet, literary critic, and an academic and a scholar in modern and post-modern literary theories as well as ancient Indian aesthetics and literary traditions. He was one of the pioneers of modernism in Malayalam poetry, where his seminal works like Kurukshethram (1960), considered a turning point in Malayalam poetry, Ayyappapanikkarude Krithikal and Chintha and several essays were an important influence on the playwrights of his generation.

Thoniyan Puthiyapurayil Shihabuddin, better known as Shihabuddin Poythumkadavu or Shihabuddin Poithumkadavu ,(Malayalam: ശിഹാബുദ്ദീൻ പൊയ്ത്തുംകടവ്; born 29 October 1963) is an Indian writer, journalist, poet, orator and television personality. He is a creative writer in Malayalam who has been writing short stories, novellas, novels, essays and poems since 1982. His works have appeared in all leading Malayalam magazines viz. Mathrubhumi weekly, Malayala Manorama annuals, India Today, Bhashaposhini, Kerala Kaumudi and the Samakalika Malayalam weekly. Most of his books have run into multiple editions with the sales of each book crossing around 10,000 copies. His stories have been prescribed by the Kerala State Education Board, University of Calicut, Mahatma Gandhi University and Kerala University as text books. He has also been translated to English, Hindi, Tamil and Arabic. He has been felicitated with awards several times by organizations such as the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, various other literary and cultural societies in India and abroad. He has scripted and directed many tele-films and serials, for Doordarshan, Asianet and Surya TV, including the script for one of the first mega serials in the Malayalam television, Kasavu. As a literary journalist, Shihabuddin has associated with three major weeklies: Poonkavanam (Kozhikode), Chandrika (newspaper) Weekly,(Kozhikode) Pravaasachandrika (Dubai) and Gulf Life in the capacity of editor and chief editor. He has traveled extensively in Middle Eastern countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain, accepting the invitation of Malayali literary and cultural organizations. He was the Chief Program Designer, Rahma Television Productions, in Kozhikode. Yarrikkum Vendatha Kan, his Tamil collection of short stories translated by KV Shylaja, published by Vamshi books, Tiruvannamalai. Shihabuddin Poythumkadavu was born on 29 October 1963 at Poythumkadavu near Valapattanam in Kannur district, Kerala. He is married to Najma, now working in a Government Higher Secondary School near Pattambi as an English teacher, and the couple has 4 children. He has resided in Kunnamkulam, Thrissur district since 2000.

Ramavarma Appan Thampuran Memorial was established in 1976 at Ayyanthole, Thrissur city in Kerala in memory of Ramavarma Appan Thampuran for his literary and cultural contributions. The memorial was established under Kerala Sahitya Academy in Kumarapuram Palace where Ramavarma Appan Thampuran lived. The memorial contains a library which have a vast collection of famous books, journals, magazines, etc.
Jayakeralam was a Malayalam–language weekly literary magazine published from Madras. It was established by C. R. Krishna Pillai in 1947 in order to encourage Malayalam writers both in Madras and Kerala, and to vocalize the "special needs" of the Malayali people. Jayakeralam was printed from Janatha Printing Press, also set up by Pillai in Madras. C. K. Appukutty Guptan was the editor of the magazine. Some of the most outstanding works of Malayalam literature were first published serially in this prestige periodical. Prominent writers such as P. Bhaskaran, Pavanan etc. had worked in the editorial board of Jayakeralam. It was one of the most popular literary magazines in Malayalam for three decades, but the publishers discontinued it in the 1990s.

Thattassery Mathai Chummar, commonly identified as T. M. Chummar, was an Indian academic and writer of Malayalam literature, best known for his books on its history. An associate of G. Sankara Kurup and Vailoppilli Sreedhara Menon, Chummar's books on Kunchan Nambiar and C. V. Raman Pillai detail their literary contributions. He was a recipient of the title Sahitya Nipunan, conferred on him by the Rajah of Cochin. The Kerala Sahitya Akademi honoured him with the distinguished fellowship in 1986.
