Grihalakshmi is an Indian magazine published fortnightly by the Mathrubhumi group. As of December 2013, it is the fifth largest regional language magazine in India by circulation according to IRS Survey 2013, with average qualifying sales of 826,000 copies. [1]
A women's magazine published in Malayalam, Grihalakshmi was launched in 1979 [2] [3] as a monthly publication. It became a bi-weekly in 2013. Grihalakshmi is owned and published by Mathrubhumi, and is based in Kozhikode. [3]
On 30 January 2016, Grihalakshmi organized a Women’s Midnight Half-marathon in Kochi, Kerala. It was the first of its kind in India.[ citation needed ] Prominent Malayalam actor Mamta Mohandas, Olympic athlete Anju Bobby George and social worker Sunitha Krishnan were the ambassadors of the event. Organized as a celebration of womanhood, the agenda was to spread the message that the streets are safe and free for women also in the night. Around 2000 people attended the marathon. The then Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala launched the event. The marathon started at 10:30 pm on 30 January and crossed over to 31 January, making it a two-day marathon. [5]

Sugathakumari was an Indian poet and activist, who was at the forefront of environmental and feminist movements in Kerala, South India.
Sukumari Amma was an Indian actress best known for her works in Malayalam and Tamil films. In a career spanning more than five decades, She has appeared in more than 2500 films predominantly in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, along with few Hindi and one each in Sinhala, French, Bengali, Tulu, English and Kannada films. Sukumari began acting at the age of 10. In 2003, she was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contributions toward the arts. She won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Tamil film Namma Gramam (2010). Sukumari died on 26 March 2013 in Chennai, following a heart attack.

She is also known for her literary contributions which have won her a number of awards including the Edasseri Award in 2007. N. Prabhakaran is a noted short story writer, novelist, poet, playwright, essayist, educationist, editor and columnist in Malayalam. He won the 2022 Kerala Sahitya Akademi honorary fellowship. The eldest of the five children born to N Kunhambu and A Kalliani, Prabhakaran was born at Parassinikkadavu in Kannur district of Kerala on 30 December 1952. He spent his childhood days at Madayi. Prabhakaran studied at Madayi L P School, Govt. High School, Madayi, Payyannur College and Government Brennen College, Thalassery. He served as a lecturer at the Dept. of Malayalam of Lekshmipuram college of Arts and Science, Neyyoor, Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, University College, Thiruvananthapuram, CKG Memorial Govt College, Perambra, and Govt Brennen College, Thalassery, and retired while serving as the Head of the Malayalam Department of Brennen College. The writer also served as a visiting professor of Malayalam at the University of Calicut. Prabhakaran resides at Dharmadam in Thalassery.
Thomas Joseph was an Indian writer of Malayalam literature. He received Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story in 2013 for his work, Marichavar Cinema KaanukayaaNu. He was also a recipient of SBT Literary Award, Delhi Short Story Award, K. A. Kodungallore Award, V. P. Sivakumar memorial Keli Award and the Children's literary institute Award. He died on 29 July 2021, at the age of 67.
Priya A. S. is an Indian writer of Malayalam literature. She writes short stories, children's literature, translations and memoirs. She has translated Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things into Malayalam under the title Kunju Karyangalude Odeythampuran of which Roy herself has said that although there have been translations in several languages, no other translation is as important to her as this, as it is the language of the novel's central characters. She is a three-time recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.
