Travancore–Cochin, or Thiru–Kochi, was a short-lived state of India (1949–1956). It was originally called United State of Travancore and Cochin following the merger of two former kingdoms, Travancore and Cochin on 1 July 1949. Its original capital was Thiruvananthapuram. It was renamed State of Travancore–Cochin in January 1950. Travancore merged with erstwhile princely state of Cochin to form Travancore-Cochin in 1950. The five Tamil-majority Taluks of Vilavancode, Kalkulam, Thovalai, Agastheeswaram, and Sengottai were transferred from Travancore-Cochin to Madras State in 1956. The Malayalam-speaking regions of the Travancore-Cochin merged with the Malabar District and the Kasaragod Taluk of South Canara district in Madras State to form the modern Malayalam-state of Kerala on 1 November 1956, according to the States Reorganisation Act, 1956 passed by the Government of India.
Padayatt Kesavapillai Vasudevan Nair, popularly known as PKV, was the 9th Chief Minister of Kerala and a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI). He was elected to the Lok Sabha four times, in 1957, 1962, 1967 and 2004, and to the Kerala Legislative Assembly twice, in 1977 and 1980. He became Chief Minister on 20 October 1978, following A. K. Antony's resignation as Chief Minister. However he resigned 7 October 1979 owing to differences with other parties in the United Front.
Raja Shri Pattom A. Thanu Pillai was a participant in the Indian independence movement who later served as the Chief Minister of Kerala from 22 February 1960 to 25 September 1962. He was known as the 'Bhishmacharya' of Kerala politics.
C. K. Chandrappan was a politician from Kerala, India. He was the Kerala state secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the president of All India Kisan Sabha at the time of his death. He was a member of the Lok Sabha of India representing the Thalassery from 1971 to 1977, Kannur from 1977 to 1980 and Thrissur from 2004 to 2009. Chandrappan served as Member of the Legislative Assembly of Kerala from 1991 to 1996 representing Chertala.
Kerala Congress (B) is a registered-unrecognized political party in Kerala, formed by R. Balakrishna Pillai, a former minister of the government of Kerala. At present, the party has one MLA in the state Legislative Assembly, namely K. B. Ganesh Kumar, a well-known film actor and son of R. Balakrishna Pillai, who has been representing the Pathanapuram constituency in Kollam District since 2001. The KC(B) was a constituent of UDF until 2014 and is now part of LDF. Ganesh Kumar served as a minister in the UDF government beginning May 18, 2011 until his resignation on April 2, 2013.

N. Gopala Menon was a lawyer and an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress, also Member of the Legislative Assembly of Madras state. He served as the Speaker of the Madras Legislative Assembly from 1955 to 1956.

Pulloli Thomas Chacko was an Indian politician of Travancore and later Kerala. He was the first Leader of Opposition of the newly formed state of Kerala. He was also the Home Minister of Kerala holding the additional portfolios of Revenue and Law during the period 1960–64.

Tara Chand was an Indian politician. He was elected to the Himachal Pradesh Territorial Council in 1962, from the Jogindernagar constituency. He was the sole Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate elected to the council. When CPI split in 1964 Tarachand sided with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), become a leading figure of CPI(M) in Himachal Pradesh. He was elected secretary of the CPI(M) Himachal Pradesh State Committee in 1978. He served as president of the Himachal Pradesh Kisan Sabha.
C. R. Mahesh is an Indian politician from Kerala and a member of the Indian National Congress. He is a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Karunagappally. Earlier he was the vice president of youth congress, Kerala. Currently he is an AICC member of INC and general secretary of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee.
A.V. Kunjambu is a well-known figure in the local history of Kerala, especially in North Malabar. He took part in the Karivellur agitation and played an important role in the formation of the Communist Party in Travancore. He worked for the welfare of the working class till the end of his life.
