Padma Theatre is a cinema theatre in the South Indian city of Kochi, Kerala. Located in the Mahatma Gandhi Road, it was opened in 1946. [1] It is one of the oldest theatres in Kerala, that is still functioning and the oldest functioning theatre in Kochi. Padma theatre is considered as landmark building in Kochi. [2]
Padma theatre was opened in 1946 and was the second theatre from the Shenoy family. Prior to that, Lakshmanan Shenoy had opened the Lakshman theatre in 1944. The theater was named after Lakhman Shenoy's wife. It had a special balcony with 20 seats reserved for the Kochi royal family. Padma was renovated in 1971 and air-conditioned with photophone film projector. The renovated theatre was opened by Tamil actor Kamal Hassan. [3]
Kochi, also known as Cochin, is a major port city on the Malabar Coast of India bordering the Laccadive Sea, which is a part of the Arabian Sea. The current metropolitan limits of Kochi include the mainland Ernakulam, Fort Kochi, the suburbs of Edapally, Kalamassery, Aluva and Kakkanad to the northeast; Tripunithura to the southeast; and a group of islands closely scattered in the Vembanad Lake.
Elattuvalapil Sreedharan is an Indian engineer and politician from the Indian state of Kerala. He is credited with changing the face of public transport in India with his leadership in building the Konkan Railway and the Delhi Metro while he served as the managing director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) between 1995 and 2012. Known as the Metro Man, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2001, the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, the Chevalier de la Legion of Honour in 2005 by the Government of France and was named one of Asia's Heroes by Time magazine in 2003. Sreedharan was appointed by the former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to serve on the United Nations's High Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport (HLAG-ST) for a period of three years in 2015. He is a member of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. He briefly served as a national executive council member of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Mattancherry, is a locality in the city of Kochi, India. It is about 9 km south-west from the city center. It is said that the name Mattancherry comes from "Ancherry Mattom", a ''Namboodiri illam'' which the foreign traders then pronounced it as Matt-Ancherry, gradually became Mattancherry. The place where erstwhile 'Ancherry Mattom' located is now a Tamil Brahmin settlement.

An international astro turf hockey stadium is located at Kollam city. Other major stadiums are EMS Stadium in Kozhikode, Malappuram District Sports Complex Stadium in Manjeri, Kannur Indoor Stadium in Kannur, Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Kollam and many more. All these stadiums attest to the mass appeal of such sports among Keralites.
Mahatma Gandhi Road, popularly known as M. G. Road, is the main artery as well as the commercial high street of the city of Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. The road lies north-south with its boundaries at the Venduruthy bridge, Thevara in the south, and the Madhava Pharmacy Junction in the north, where it intersects the Banerji Road. The road was earlier part of the NH 47A and was later handed over to Kochi Municipal Corporation. The highway was earlier known as Seventy Feet road. The total distance of the road is 4.5 kilometres (2.8 mi).
Philip Augustine, an Indian gastroenterologist, specialist in gastrointestinal endoscopy and a hospital administrator from Ernakulam, Kerala. He founded the Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre in 2003. In 2010, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, for his services to the fields of medicine.
Moozhikkulam Kochukuttan Chakyar (1928–2009) was an exponent of Koodiyattam, a traditional form of Sanskrit theatre from Kerala, which has been recognised by UNESCO as an Oral and Intangible Heritage of Mankind. Born in a family of Koodiyattam performers, in 1928, at Ammannur, a small hamlet near Irinjalakuda, in Thrissur district in the south Indian state of Kerala, Chakyar had his early training in the art form from within his family. Ammannur Madhava Chakyar, a renowned Koodiyattam performer and a Padmabhushan awardee, was his cousin and the two, later, would evolve a new school of performance, popularly known as the Ammannur tradition of Koodiyattam. When Margi, an institution promoting traditional art forms of Kerala, started their Koodiyattam training centre in 1981, he was the first residential guru. The institution imparted training to many aspiring performers which included two sons of Chakyar, Margi Sajeev Narayana Chakiar and Margi Madhu and both of them are known exponents of the art form. In 1998, Chakyar joined Nepathya, a centre for excellence in Kudiyattam, as the Mukhya Acharya, and continued his association with the institution till his last. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to Arts. He died in 2009, at the age of 81. He is remembered by an annual festival, Guru Moozhikkulam Kochukuttan Chakyar Memorial Kutiyttam Festival, at Moozhikkulam, a suburb of Kochi where Nepathya is headquartered in, and through orations organised by Nepathya.
The Apsara Theatre was a cinema theatre located in the South Indian city of Kozhikode in Kerala, that functioned from 1971 to 2023. It was located on Link Road near Kozhikode railway station. With 1013 seats, Apsara was one of the biggest cinemas in Kerala and a heritage landmark of Kozhikode.
The Kokers Theatre was a cinema theatre located in the South Indian city of Kochi in Kerala, that functioned from 1969 to 2017. One of the oldest cinemas in Kochi, Kokers was the first 70 mm screen in Kerala. It is located in Amaravathy, Fort Kochi and is considered a major landmark in West Kochi.
Shenoys Theatre is a five-screen multiplex cinema hall in the South Indian city Kochi, Kerala. Located in the Mahatma Gandhi Road, it was opened in 1969 as a single-screen theatre. Until its temporary closure in 2015 for the renovation works, it was billed as one of the largest single-screen theatres in Kerala with a seating capacity for 1250 people. It was reopened in 2021 as a multiplex. Shenoys was the second cinema in Asia to have the Vistarama projection. Known for its circular structure, it is considered a heritage landmark building in Kochi.
Sri Padmanabha Theatre is a cinema theatre in the South Indian city of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Located in Chalai, it was opened in 1936 and is one of the oldest theatres in Kerala. Sri Padmanabha is known among the filmfest delegates as one of the venue for the International Film Festival of Kerala. It is considered as part of cinema culture of Thiruvananthapuram.
Sridar Theatre or Sridar Cinema is a cinema theatre in the South Indian city of Kochi, Kerala. Located in the Shanmugham Road, Marine Drive, it was opened in 1964. Sridar theatre is the first air conditioned theatre in Kerala.
Ragam Theatre is a cinema theatre in the South Indian city of Thrissur, Kerala. Located in Swaraj Round S Road in Veliyannur, it was opened in 1974. Until its temporary closure in February 2015, Ragam was billed as one of the largest single-screen theatres in Kerala with a seating capacity for more than 1200 people. It was reopened in October 2018 after a major renovation. Ragam theatre is considered a cultural landmark building in Thrissur.
