The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is a learned society in the United Kingdom with the goal of "advancing the chemical sciences". It was formed in 1980 from the amalgamation of the Chemical Society, the Royal Institute of Chemistry, the Faraday Society, and the Society for Analytical Chemistry with a new Royal Charter and the dual role of learned society and professional body. At its inception, the Society had a combined membership of 34,000 in the UK and a further 8,000 abroad. The headquarters of the Society are at Burlington House, Piccadilly, London. It also has offices in Thomas Graham House in Cambridge where RSC Publishing is based. The Society has offices in the United States at the University City Science Center, Philadelphia, in both Beijing and Shanghai, China and Bangalore, India. The organisation carries out research, publishes journals, books and databases, as well as hosting conferences, seminars and workshops. It is the professional body for chemistry in the UK, with the ability to award the status of Chartered Chemist (CChem) and, through the Science Council the awards of Chartered Scientist (CSci), Registered Scientist (RSci) and Registered Science Technician (RScTech) to suitably qualified candidates. The designation FRSC is given to a group of elected Fellows of the society who have made major contributions to chemistry and other interface disciplines such as biological chemistry. The names of Fellows are published each year in The Times (London). Honorary Fellowship of the Society ("HonFRSC") is awarded for distinguished service in the field of chemistry.

Craig J. Hawker is an Australian-born chemist. His research has focused on the interface between organic and polymer chemistry with emphasis on the design, synthesis, and application of well-defined macromolecular structures in biotechnology, microelectronics and surface science. Hawker holds more than 45 U.S. patents and has co-authored over 300 papers in the areas of nanotechnology, materials science and chemistry. He was listed as one of the Top 100 most cited chemists worldwide over the decade 1992–2002. and again in 2000–2010. Hawker is currently the director of the California Nanosystems Institute and holds a number of other laboratory directorships at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Oluwole Babafemi Familoni is a professor of chemistry at the University of Lagos and member of the governing council of the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria. Between 2000 and 2002, he was the sub-dean of the Faculty of Science of the University of Lagos. He was appointed the head of the Department of Chemistry between 2002 and 2005. He later became the dean of science between 2008 and 2012. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science, elected into the academy's fellowship at its Annual General Meeting held in January 2015. He is currently the Deputy Vice chancellor of University of Lagos. Professor Familoni is the International Representative for Royal Society of Chemistry, London for Southern Nigeria.
Tebello Nyokong is a South African chemist and professor at Rhodes University, and a recipient of the Presidency of South Africa's Order of Mapungubwe in Bronze. She was awarded the South African Chemical Institute Gold Medal in 2012, and named one of the top 10 most influential women in science and technology in Africa by IT News Africa. She is currently researching photo-dynamic therapy, an alternative cancer treatment method to chemotherapy. In 2007, she was one of the top three publishing scientists in South Africa, and in 2013 she was awarded the National Research Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award.
eLearning Africa is a three-day annual international conference on ICT-enhanced education, training and skills development in Africa which is organised by ICWE GmbH.
