The Panama–Pacific International Exposition was a world's fair held in San Francisco, California, United States, from February 20 to December 4, 1915. Its stated purpose was to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal, but it was widely seen in the city as an opportunity to showcase its recovery from the 1906 earthquake. The fair was constructed on a 636 acre(1 sq. mi., 2.6 km2) site along the northern shore, between the Presidio and Fort Mason, now known as the Marina District.
Panama competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. This was the nation's fourteenth appearance at the Olympics since its debut in 1920. Panama did not compete on four occasions, including the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, because of its partial support of the United States boycott.
The Estadio Olímpico Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez, named after the Panamanian football star Rommel Fernández, is a multi-purpose stadium located in Panama City. It is used for different sports, but mainly for the conduct of football (soccer) games. It was inaugurated February 6, 1970. It was designed to accommodate the XI Central American and Caribbean Games in 1970. Through further reforms, the stadium managed to reach the current capacity of 32,000 spectators all seated, now the largest stadium in Panama, above the Estadio Rod Carew of baseball. It is part of Sports City Irving Saladino.
The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) is an incorporated, non-profit organization responsible for all volleyball activities that take place in its zone. NORCECA is the continental confederation that represents its 35 member countries at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) level and also has 6 associate members. The Confederation is responsible for, among other things, the staging of Olympic and World Championship zone qualification tournaments, as well as continental championships for both men and women in Indoor and Beach Volleyball. In 2020, NORCECA celebrated its fifty-second (52nd) anniversary.

The Guatemala women's national football team is controlled by the Federación Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala. They are one of the top women's national football teams in the Central American region along with Costa Rica, having won the 1999 UNCAF championship.

The Panama women's national football team is overseen by the Federación Panameña de Fútbol. After a 12 year absence, the team will return to the CONCACAF Women's Championship in 2018 after finishing second in UNCAF zone qualifying.
The 4th South American Under-23 Championships in Athletics were held in Medellín, Colombia, at the Estadio Alfonso Galvis Duque at the Unidad Deportiva Atanasio Girardot on March 20–23, 2010. The championships, organized by CONSUDATLE, were held as a part of the South American Games. A detailed report on the results was given. The most prominent result was achieved in the heat of the women's 100 metres by Ana Cláudia Lemos Silva. Her time of 11.17 equaled the South American and Brazilian record, and set a new championships and games record.

Association football competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 11 to 26 at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton. The men's tournament were an under-22 competition with a maximum of three over-age players allowed, while the women's tournament had no age restrictions. A total of eight teams competed in each respective tournament.

This was the nation's seventh time competing in the Summer Paralympic Games after it first entered the movement at the 1992 Summer Paralympics. The Panamanian delegation to Rio de Janeiro consisted of two athletes: shot put thrower Francisco Cedeño Almengor and javelin thrower Iveth Valdes Romero. Almengor ranked eleventh out of twelve athletes in the men's shot put F54–55 competition and Romero placed in the same position in the women's javelin F55–F56 event.

Nola Thorne was a former Panamanian female track and field athlete. She was known as one of the most memorable women to have emerged from the country of Panama mainly due to her achievement of clinching 3 gold medals at the inaugural edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1938.
