Central America central geographic region of the Americas

Central America is a region found in the southern tip of North America and is sometimes defined as a subcontinent of the Americas. This region is bordered by Mexico to the north, Colombia to the southeast, the Caribbean Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west and south. José Daniel Ortega Saavedra is a Nicaraguan politician serving as President of Nicaragua since 2007; previously he was leader of Nicaragua from 1979 to 1990, first as Coordinator of the Junta of National Reconstruction (1979–1985) and then as President (1985–1990). A leader in the Sandinista National Liberation Front, his policies in government have seen the implementation of leftist reforms across Nicaragua.

Nicaragua Country in Central America

Nicaragua, officially the Republic of Nicaragua, is the largest country in the Central American isthmus, bordered by Honduras to the northwest, the Caribbean to the east, Costa Rica to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest. Managua is the country's capital and largest city and is also the third-largest city in Central America, behind Tegucigalpa and Guatemala City. The multi-ethnic population of six million includes people of indigenous, European, African, and Asian heritage. The main language is Spanish. Indigenous tribes on the Mosquito Coast speak their own languages and English.

Nicaragua competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004.

The Nicaragua national football team is controlled by the Nicaraguan Football Federation. Nicaragua achieved its first qualification to a major international competition in 2009, when it qualified for the 2009 Gold Cup as the last entrant from Central America, after a 2–0 win over Guatemala of the fifth place match in the 2009 Nations Cup.

United States occupation of Nicaragua part of the Banana Wars

The United States occupation of Nicaragua from 1912 to 1933 was part of the Banana Wars, when the US military intervened in various Latin American countries from 1898 to 1934. The formal occupation began in 1912, even though there were various other assaults by the U.S. in Nicaragua throughout this period. American military interventions in Nicaragua were designed to stop any other nation except the United States of America from building a Nicaraguan Canal.

Nicaragua at the 1992 Summer Olympics country entered in olympic summer games

Nicaragua competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Eight competitors, seven men and one woman, took part in nine events in six sports.

The eleventh edition of the Men's Football Tournament at the Pan American Games was held in Havana, Cuba from August 4 to August 13, 1991. Eight teams competed, with title holder Brazil missing. After the preliminary round there was a knock-out stage.

The Nicaragua national baseball team is the national baseball team of Nicaragua. Considered the best in Central America along with Panama. It represents Nicaragua in international tournaments. Nicaragua has a long history in the Baseball World Cup, hosting it five times and earning five second-place finishes the last in 1990. A group of 30 Nicaraguans signed to professional contracts in the United States of America. Nicaragua has never qualified for the World Baseball Classic, but they have participated at the Olympic Games twice in 1984 and 1996. Also, they have participated at the Pan American Games five times in 1983, 1995, 2007, 2015, and 2019. The team will try to qualify for the 2020 Olympics at the eight-team Americas Qualifying Event in March 2020.

Nicaragua at the 2016 Summer Paralympics

Nicaragua sent a delegation to compete at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7–18 September 2016. This was the Central American country's third appearance at the Summer Paralympic Games, having made its debut twelve years earlier at the 2004 Summer Paralympics. They were represented by three athletes, sprinter Jennifer Osejo, middle-distance runner and sprinter Gabriel Cuadra Holmann and powerlifter Fernando Acevedo, who all qualified for the games by achieving the minimum qualifying standard in international competition. Neither Holmann or Osejo claimed a medal in their respective events and Acevado finished fifth in the men's –72kg powerlifting class.

Baseball competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, were held from July 27 to August 4. The venue for the competition was the baseball stadium located at the Villa María del Triunfo cluster. A total of eight men's teams competed. This meant a total of 192 athletes were scheduled to compete. After being contested for the first time ever in 2015, the women's event was dropped for this edition.
