Panathinaikos Athlitikos Omilos, also known simply as Panathinaikós, is a major Greek multi-sport club based in the City of Athens. Panathinaikos is one of the most successful multi-sport clubs and one of the oldest clubs in Greece. The name "Panathinaikos" was inspired by the ancient work of Isocrates Panathenaicus, where the orator praise the Athenians for their democratic education and their military superiority, which use it for benefit of all Greeks.

Ethnikos Piraeus is a Greek multisport club based in Piraeus. It was founded in 1923. The full name of the club is Ethnikos Omilos Filathlon Pireos/Phalirou or Ethnikos OFPF, which means National Club of Fans of Piraeus and Phalerum. Ethnikos has sections in football, basketball, volleyball, waterpolo, swimming. In most of these sports, Ethnikos has won titles and honours. The most successful department is by far the water polo, which has won many domestic and European titles. The ETTU Cup is the second most important continental tournament for clubs in European table tennis, after the European Champions League. The European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) has organized this cup since the 1964-65 season for men teams, and also for women teams a year later.
Football clubs from Superleague Greece have participated in European football competitions since 1959, when Olympiacos took part in the European Cup. Olympiacos is the only Greek team to have won a European competition, after winning the UEFA Youth League, at youth level, and later the UEFA Conference League, at senior level, in 2024. Other important landmarks of Greek football in European competitions are the participation of Panathinaikos in the 1971 European Cup final and in the semi-finals of the 1985 and 1996 editions. AEK Athens are the only Greek team to have reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, in 1977. Greek clubs have reached at least the quarter-finals of a European competition on 18 occasions in total.

The ETTU Europe Trophy is the third most important continental tournament for clubs in European table tennis, after the European Champions League and the ETTU Cup. The European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) has organized this cup since the 2021–22 season for men and women teams. The ETTU Europe Trophy Grand Final will be host in Piraeus for the 2022–2023 season.
