Disbarment,also known as striking off,is the removal of a lawyer from a bar association or the practice of law,thus revoking their law license or admission to practice law. Disbarment is usually a punishment for unethical or criminal conduct but may also be imposed for incompetence or incapacity. Procedures vary depending on the law society;temporary disbarment may be referred to as suspension.
In jurisprudence,prosecutorial misconduct or prosecutorial overreach is "an illegal act or failing to act,on the part of a prosecutor,especially an attempt to sway the jury to wrongly convict a defendant or to impose a harsher than appropriate punishment." It is similar to selective prosecution. Prosecutors are bound by a sets of rules which outline fair and dispassionate conduct.
Cyril Harrison Wecht is an American forensic pathologist. He has been the president of both the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the American College of Legal Medicine,and headed the board of trustees of the American Board of Legal Medicine. Wecht served as County Commissioner and Allegheny County Coroner and Medical Examiner,serving the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. He is perhaps best known for his criticism of the Warren Commission's findings concerning the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
H. William DeWeese is an American politician who is a former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. A member of the Democratic Party,DeWeese served as the 135th Speaker of the Pennsylvania House from 1993 to 1994. After five years of investigation by Republican State Attorney General Tom Corbett,he was indicted in December 2009 on six charges of conflict of interest,theft and criminal conspiracy on accusations that two members of his staff used state resources to campaign for political office. The trial began January 23,2010. He was re-elected in 2010 despite the charges,but was convicted of five of the six felony charges on February 6,2012.

On April 10,2012,Thomas was disbarred by a disciplinary panel of the Arizona State Supreme Court for his actions as county attorney.
Jane Clare Orie is an American politician,attorney,and convicted felon who served in both Houses of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. While in the State Senate,she represented the 40th district,including portions of Allegheny County and Butler County,and served as the Majority Whip. Orie is also a former member of the State House,where she represented the 28th district. She resigned from the State Senate in May 2012,following her conviction on 14 counts of forgery,conflict of interest and theft of services,and served the minimum two-and-a half years of a two-and-a-half to ten-year prison sentence. She was disbarred by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on December 10,2014.

The relationship between the City of Washington,Pennsylvania,and Washington &Jefferson College spans over two centuries,dating to the founding of both the city and the college in the 1780s. The relationship between the town and college were strong enough that the citizens of Washington offered the college a $50,000 donation in 1869 in a successful attempt to lure the Washington &Jefferson College trustees to select Washington over nearby Canonsburg as the consolidated location of the college. The relationship was strained through the latter half of the 20th century,however,as the college pursued an expansion policy that clashed with the residential neighborhood. The college's frustrations grew after preservationists unsuccessfully attempted to pass laws prohibiting the college from demolishing certain buildings that were listed on the East Washington Historic District. Relations were so bad that residents and college officials engaged in a shouting match at a meeting. Local preservationists also unsuccessfully tried to block the demolition of Hays Hall,which had been condemned.
The Jordan Brown case involves Jordan Brown,who was initially charged at 11 as an adult in the fatal shooting of his father's fiancée,Kenzie Marie Houk,26,in New Beaver,Pennsylvania,which occurred on the morning of February 20,2009. Jordan was interviewed by Pennsylvania State Police twice that day and arrested before sunrise the next morning. The Lawrence County District Attorney's Office initially filed the charges in adult court because that is required in Pennsylvania homicide cases,regardless of a defendant's age. The Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office then took over prosecution of the case. After Brown had spent more than three years in a juvenile detention facility in Erie,Pennsylvania,while Pennsylvania courts deliberated his status,Brown was tried as a juvenile and found guilty of being delinquent by a judge on April 13,2012.

Maria Cristina Gutierrez was an American criminal defense attorney based in Baltimore,Maryland,who represented several high-profile defendants in the 1990s. She was the first Latina to be counsel of record in a case before the Supreme Court of the United States. In 2001,Gutierrez was disbarred,with her consent,following multiple complaints from clients who paid her for legal work she failed to perform. At the time,Gutierrez was dying from a combination of multiple sclerosis and diabetes,and her health was rapidly deteriorating.
