Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. In the United Kingdom, paediatrics covers many of their youth until the age of 18. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends people seek pediatric care through the age of 21, but some pediatric subspecialists continue to care for adults up to 25. Worldwide age limits of pediatrics have been trending upward year after year. A medical doctor who specializes in this area is known as a pediatrician, or paediatrician. The word pediatrics and its cognates mean "healer of children," derived from the two Greek words: παῖς and ἰατρός. Pediatricians work in clinics, research centers, universities, general hospitals and children's hospitals, including those who practice pediatric subspecialties.

The AAP has published hundreds of policy statements, ranging from advocacy issues to practice recommendations. Notable positions advocated by the AAP include abortion access for teenagers, a minimum purchasing age of 21 years for tobacco products, background checks, an assault weapons ban, more federal research on gun violence, and favorable statements on circumcision and forms of gender-affirming care.

Adolescent medicine also known as adolescent and young adult medicine is a medical subspecialty that focuses on care of patients who are in the adolescent period of development. This period begins at puberty and lasts until growth has stopped, at which time adulthood begins. Typically, patients in this age range will be in the last years of middle school up until college graduation. In developed nations, the psychosocial period of adolescence is extended both by an earlier start, as the onset of puberty begins earlier, and a later end, as patients require more years of education or training before they reach economic independence from their parents.

Paediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology is a bimonthly peer-reviewed medical journal covering epidemiologic research related to paediatrics and perinatology. It was established in 1987 by Jean Golding, who remained editor-in-chief until 2012, and is published by Wiley-Blackwell. Following Jean Golding, the position of editor-in-chief was taken up by Cande V. Ananth of the Columbia University Medical Center. The journal is affiliated to the Society for Pediatric and Perinatal Epidemiologic Research.

The Academic Pediatric Association (APA) is a professional pediatric organization that represents approximately 2000 health care professionals in academic general pediatrics. Membership is open to physicians, nurse practitioners, doctoral trained professionals, students, and other child health experts. For the past 20 years, the APA has been one of the co-sponsors of the annual Pediatric Academic Societies meeting, the largest regular pediatric research meeting in the world. The APA also sponsors regional meetings and provides members with numerous forums to collaborate on academic endeavors that benefit children. Four standing committees direct multiple programs within the APA, and its 38 special interest groups (SIGS) work on areas relevant to child health.
Logan Wright Jr. was an American pediatric psychologist and former president of the American Psychological Association (APA). He coined the term pediatric psychology, co-founded the Society of Pediatric Psychology (SPP) and made numerous advances within the field. He was involved in the founding of the American Psychological Society (APS) in the mid-1980s when many psychological scientists split off from the APA.
Terri H. Finkel is an American pediatric rheumatologist and immunologist who is the Children's Foundation of Memphis Endowed Chair and tenured professor of pediatrics at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Previously, she was the pediatrician-in-chief, chair of pediatrics and chief scientific officer at Nemours Children's Hospital. She is known for her research into autoimmunity, AIDS, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and cancer. Her work has been recognized in more than 200 publications, 10 U.S. patents, and 4 licensed technologies. Finkel has been placed in the top one percent of American pediatric rheumatologists by U.S. News & World Report. Her numerous honors include being named among America's Top Doctors by Castle Connolly every year since 2011 and induction into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame in 1996.
