Pejavara Matha is one of the Ashta Mathas of Udupi, which was started by Sri Adhokshaja Tirtha, [1] who was a direct disciple of Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita school of Hindu philosophy. Till date, 32 Swamijis have headed this matha. The current Swamiji is Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji.He ascended the Vedanta Peetha after the death of his predecessor and Guru H. H. Sri Sri Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji on 29 December 2019. [2]

Paryaya is a religious ritual which takes place every alternate year in Sri Krishna Matha of Udupi. The puja and administration of Krishna Matha is distributed among the Swamijis of Ashta Matha's established by Dvaita philosopher Sri Madhvacharya. Each swamiji of every matha gets chance to perform puja to Udupi Sri Krishna by rotation for a period of two years.

Krishnapura matha

The Krishnapur Matha or Krishnapur Mutt in some records and literature is a Madhwa Vaishnava monastery. It is one of the Ashta Mathas of Udupi founded by Dvaita philosopher Madhvacharya of Udupi. Krishnapur Monastery is currently headed by Vidyasagara Thirta. The first swami of this monastery was Janardhana Thirta, who was one of the direct disciples of Madhvacharya. Its presiding deity is Kalingamardhana Krishna. The matha houses a Mukyaprana temple inside where puja is performed every day.

Ashta Mathas of Udupi

The Tulu Ashta Mathas of Udupi are a group of eight mathas or Hindu monasteries established by Madhvacharya, the preceptor of the Dvaita school of Hindu thought. For each of the eight mathas, Madhvacharya also appointed one of his direct disciples to be the first Swami, head of the matha.

Sri Vishwesha Tirtharu, officially known as Śrī Śrī 1008 Śrī Viśveśa-tīrtha Śrīpādaṅgaḷavaru Kannada: ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀ ೧೦೦೮ ಶ್ರೀ ವಿಶ್ವೇಶತೀರ್ಥ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದಂಗಳವರು, was an Indian Hindu guru, saint and presiding swamiji of the Sri Pejavara Adokshaja Matha, one of the Ashta Mathas belonging to the Dvaita school of philosophy founded by Sri Madhvacharya. Sri Vishvesha Tirtharu was the 32nd in the lineage of the Pejavara matha, starting from Sri Adhokshaja Tirtharu, who was one of the direct disciples of Sri Madhvacharya. He was the honorary president of Vishva Tulu Sammelana. He had established Poornaprajna Vidyapeetha in Bangalore which has completed over 63 years. Many scholars are trained here on Vedanta. He has also conducted 38 Nyayasudamangalas - graduations for Poornaprajna Vidyapeetha students. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan India's second highest civilian award posthumously in 2020 for his work and service towards the society.

Madhva tradition tradition in Hinduism linked to Dvaita Vedanta

Sadh Vaishnava Sampradaya or Sadh Vaishnavism, , also known as Bhagavata Sampradaya, Madhva Vaishnavism, is a denomination within the Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism, founded by the thirteenth century philosopher Madhvacharya. It is a movement in Hinduism that developed during its classical period around the beginning of the Common Era. Philosophically, Madhva tradition is aligned with Dvaita Vedanta, and regards Madhvacharya as its founder or reformer.

Vishnu Tirtha (Subhaktiman) was a scholar of the Dvaita school of Vedanta philosophy and the founder of the monasteries at Sodhe and Subramanya. He left his home after his parents died to join the order of Brahma Sampradaya. He was initiated into the order by his older brother Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita school. Subhaktiman was rechristened Vishnu Tirtha after the initiation. He was succeeded by Aniruddha Tirtha at the Subramanya monastery. He also had an elder sister.

Puttige Matha

Puthige Matha or Puttige Mutt in some records and literature is a Madhwa Vaishnava monastery. It is one of the Ashta Mathas of Udupi founded by Dvaita philosopher Madhvacharya of Udupi. The first pontiff of Puttige matha was Sri Upendra Tirtha, who was a direct disciple of Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita school of philosophy. The main idols worshipped in the Puttige matha are that of Panduranga (Vittala), which was given to Sri Upendra Tirtha by Sri Madhvacharya. Till date, there have been 29 pontiffs who have headed the matha.

Uttaradi Math Hindu monastery

Shri Uttaradi Math, is one of the premier Dvaita Vedanta monasteries (matha) descended from Jagadguru Śrī Madhvācārya through Padmanabha Tirtha, Jayatirtha and their disciples. The Uttarādi Math is an important institution among the Mādhvas and also deeply respected among the Vaishnavas. The Uttarādi Math is one of the major Hindu monastic institutions that has historically coordinated Madhva tradition and monastic activities through satellite institutions in South India, preserved Sanskrit literature and pursued Dvaita studies. The Uttarādi Math has been a library and a source of historic Sanskrit manuscripts. Along with other Hindu monasteries Sri matha has been active in preserving the Vedas, sponsoring students and recitals, Sanskrit scholarship, and celebrating annual Madhva Jayanthi. The current pīṭādhipati or the acharya holding the pontifical seat is Satyatma Tirtha Śrīpād. The Uttaradi Math has huge following in South India compared to other Madhva mathas. Most of Deshastha Madhvas of Maharashtra and the whole community of Gayawal Pandas in Bihar are followers of this matha.

Shri Raghavendra Math, better known as Rayara Math (popularly known as Shri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt'. Raghavendra Matha is located on the bank of Tungabhadra River in Mantralayam in Adoni taluk of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Satyatma Tirtha Hindu guru

Sri Satyatma Tirtha, is an Indian Hindu philosopher, guru, scholar, spiritual leader, saint and the present pontiff of Uttaradi Math, a math dedicated to Dvaita Vedanta, which has a large following in South India. Satyapramoda Tirtha was an Indian Hindu philosopher, spiritual leader, guru,, saint and the pontiff of Uttaradi Math, a math (mutt) dedicated to Dvaita philosophy, which has a large following in southern India. He was the 41st pontiff of Uttaradi Math since Madhvacharya, reformer of Dvaita philosophy. and founder of Jayateertha Vidyapeetha.

Shiroor Math

Shiroor Matha is a Hindu monastery and one of the Ashta Mathas of Udupi. It which was founded by Sri Vamana Tirtha at Shiroor village on the banks of Suvarna River in Udupi, Karnataka who was a direct disciple of Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita school of Hindu philosophy. The swami, Lakshmivara Teertha, died on Thursday 19, July 2018.

Madhava Tirtha Indian philosopher

Madhava Tirtha was a Hindu philosopher, scholar and the 3rd pontiff of Madhvacharya Peetha. He succeeded Narahari Tirtha as the pontiff of the Madhvacharya peetha from 1333 - 1350.

Vedanidhi Tirtha Dvaita philosopher

Shri Vedanidhi Tirtha, was a Hindu philosopher, scholar, theologian and saint. He served as the pontiff of Shri Uttaradi Math from 1631-1635. He was the seventeenth in succession from Madhvacharya.
