Pele Peter Tinggom is a Malaysian politician, civil servant, dealer's representative and lawyer who has served as a Senator since March 2024. [1]
Pele Peter Tinggom was born in Saratok. [2] He is the son of Peter Tinggom Kamarau, former MP for Saratok. His father served as Deputy Minister of National Unity and Community Development under Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from 1995 to 1999. [3]
Pele graduated from Anglia Ruskin University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours). [1] [2] He passed the examination in Accounting, Financial Statement Analysis and Asset Valuation from the Securities Commission Malaysia in 2000. [1] [2] He then obtained a Diploma in Management (Executive) from the Australian Institute of Management (AIM), University of Western Australia in 2002. [1] [2]
Pele ventured into the legal profession, working with a legal firm in Kuching. Subsequently, he transitioned into the financial services sector, serving as a dealer's representative with Kenanga Investment Bank Berhad (Kenanga IB). [1]
Following his stint in the financial industry, Pele embarked on a career in the civil service, where he held several significant positions within the Sarawak civil service. His roles included serving at the State Financial Secretary's Office, Ministry of Public Utilities Sarawak, Regional Corridor of Development Authority (RECODA), Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, Prime Minister's Department, and Ministry of Utilities Sarawak. Within the civil service, Pele served as an Assistant Secretary, Parliamentary Officer, Deputy Secretary of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2015, and ultimately as Secretary of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly from 2019 to 2024. [3] [1] [2]
On 3 March, Pele confirmed his swearing-in as a Senator. [4] [5] On 5 March, he retired early from his role as Secretary of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, and was sworn in as a Senator on the same day in Dewan Negara. [1] He is a senator appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim. [6]

The Parliament of Malaysia is the national legislature of Malaysia, based on the Westminster system. The bicameral parliament consists of the Dewan Rakyat and the Dewan Negara. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King), as the head of state, is the third component of Parliament.
The Progressive Democratic Party, formerly known as Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party is a Sarawak based political party in Malaysia founded in 2002. The party was founded in the wake of the de-registration of the Sarawak National Party in November 2002 by a faction aligned to the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Abdul Taib Mahmud, led by William Mawan Ikom. The party has since rebranded in using a new name - Progressive Democratic Party since 2017 and has planned to expand to certain West Malaysian states e.g. Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Johor. It is one of the former component party of the Barisan Nasional coalition. Following the fall of BN in the 2018 general election and in the aftermath of meeting between all Sarawak-based BN coalition parties on 12 June 2018, PDP left the coalition to form a new Sarawak-based coalition of Sarawak Parties Alliance.
The Dewan Negara is the upper house of the Parliament of Malaysia, consisting of 70 senators of whom 26 are elected by the state legislative assemblies, with two senators for each state, while the other 44 are appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King), including four who are appointed to represent the federal territories.
The President of the Senate is the presiding officer or speaker of the Dewan Negara, the upper house of the Parliament of Malaysia.
Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar is a Malaysian politician, lawyer and former senior police officer who has served as the 8th Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak since January 2024. He previously served as the 19th President of the Dewan Negara and Senator from June 2023 to his resignation in January 2024.
Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Juhar bin Mahiruddin is a Malaysian politician who has served as the 10th Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah since January 2011. He had served as Speaker of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly from December 2002 to December 2010, Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat and Member of Parliament (MP) for Kinabatangan from October 1990 to November 1999. He is also the longest-serving Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah, Chancellor of the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and founding member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) of Sabah.
Mahathir Mohamad formed the second Mahathir cabinet after being invited by Tuanku Ahmad Shah to begin a new government following the 22 April 1982 general election in Malaysia. Prior to the election, Mahathir led the first Mahathir cabinet, a coalition government that consisted of members of the component parties of Barisan Nasional. It was the 10th cabinet of Malaysia formed since independence.

The Selangor State Executive Council forms the executive branch of the state government of Selangor, Malaysia. It comprises the Menteri Besar, appointed by the Sultan on the basis that he is likely to command the confidence of the majority of members of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, and a minimum of four up to a maximum of ten members of the State Legislative Assembly. The State Government Secretary, State Legal Adviser and State Financial Officer serve as exofficio members.
The 18th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly was a term of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, the legislative branch of the Government of Sarawak in Sarawak, Malaysia. The 18th Assembly consisted of 82 members that were elected in the 2016 state election and served from 7 June 2016 until 3 November 2021.
The following is the list of members of the Dewan Negara (Senate) of the 14th Malaysian Parliament as of May 2021. 26 out of 70 senators, i.e. two senators for each state, are elected by their respective State Legislative Assembly for three-year term. The other 44, including four senators representing Federal Territories, are appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong also for three-year term.
The 2020–2022 Malaysian political crisis was triggered after several Members of Parliament (MPs) of the 14th Malaysian Parliament changed party support, leading to the loss of a parliamentary majority, the collapse of two successive coalition governments, and the resignation of two Prime Ministers. The political crisis culminated in a 2022 snap general election and eventual formation of a coalition government.
Dato' Haji Jefridin bin Haji Atan is a Malaysian politician who has served as Member of the Johor State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kukup since March 2022. He had served as a Senator from September 2020 to September 2023. He is a member and Division Chief of Tanjung Piai of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
Muhamad bin Mustafa is a Malaysian politician who has served as a Senator since 2017 to 2020 and Member of Dewan Rakyat for Peringat from 1999 to 2004. He is a member of PAS.
Nuridah binti Mohd Salleh is a Malaysian politician who served as Senator from 2018 to 2022 and Dewan Muslimat PAS Chief from 2007 to 2011 and since 2015.
John Ambrose Dumpangol is a Malaysian politician who served as the Senator from January 2018 to January 2024. He is a member of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN), a component party of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition and was a member of Malaysian United Indigenous Party of Sabah, a former component party branch of the GRS coalition and component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition and was a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He left UMNO on 13 December 2018, joined BERSATU on 15 March 2019 and moved to Sabah BERSATU after its formation on 6 April 2019. He left Sabah BERSATU on 10 December 2022. and joined GAGASAN on 5 February 2023. He is of Kadazan-Dusun descent and is a Christian of the Roman Catholic denomination.
The Ismail Sabri cabinet was formed following the appointment of Ismail Sabri Yaakob as Prime Minister of Malaysia on 21 August 2021 and dissolved 15 months and 3 days later following the appointment of Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister on 24 November 2022. It was the 22nd cabinet of Malaysia formed since independence. Following the coalition's defeat in the 2018 general election, Barisan Nasional (BN) has formed its first cabinet. This cabinet also has the full support of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), three independent members of the Dewan Rakyat and conditional support of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
Ajis bin Sitin is a Malaysian civil servant who has served as the Director-General of Department of Orang Asli Development from 2017 to 2019. He was appointed as a Senator on 25 August 2021 to represent Pahang.
