Elbasan is a city and a municipality in Elbasan County, central Albania. The fourth largest city in Albania, it is located on the Shkumbin River in the County of Elbasan.
Districts were geographic subdivisions of Albania that functioned from 1913-2000. Between 1991 and 2000 Albania was divided into 36 districts, which were grouped into 12 prefectures or counties.

It had a population of 224,974 in 2001, and an area of 1,290 km2 (500 sq mi) It was in the centre of the country, and its capital was the city of Elbasan. Its territory is now part of Elbasan County: the municipalities of Elbasan, Belsh and Cërrik.

It had a population of 35,723 in 2001, and an area of 695 km2 (268 sq mi). It is in the centre of the country, and its capital was the town of Gramsh. The area of the former district is coextensive with the present municipality of Gramsh, which is part of Elbasan County.

The municipality was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Gjoçaj, Karinë, Pajovë, Peqin, Përparim and Shezë, that became municipal units. The seat of the municipality is the town Peqin. The total population is 26,136, in a total area of 197.90 km2. The population of the former municipality at the 2011 census was 6,353.
Gramsh is a town and a municipality in Elbasan County, central Albania. The municipality was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Gramsh, Kodovjat, Kukur, Kushovë, Lenie, Pishaj, Poroçan, Skënderbegas, Sult and Tunjë, that became municipal units. The seat of the municipality is the town Gramsh. The total population is 24,231, in a total area of 739.75 km2. The population of the former municipality at the 2011 census was 8,440.

Përparim is a village and a former municipality in the Elbasan County, central Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a subdivision of the municipality Peqin. The population at the 2011 census was 3,423. The municipal unit consists of the villages Galush, Lisnaj, Bicaj, Çaushaj, Përparim, Fatishe, Garunje e Madhë, Arven, Gjevur, Kodras, Lolaj, Katesh, Cobane and Urucaj.
Pajovë is a village and a former municipality in the District, Elbasan County, central Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a subdivision of the municipality Peqin. The population at the 2011 census was 6,626. The municipal unit consists of the villages Pajovë, Gryksh i Madh, Bishqem, Paulesh, Bishqem Fushë, Leqit, Lazaren, Haspiraj, Hasnjok, Cengelaj, Garunje e Papërit and Cacabeze.
Shezë is a former municipality in the Elbasan County, central Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a subdivision of the municipality Peqin. The population at the 2011 census was 3,177. The municipal unit consists of the villages Shezë e Vogël, Shezë e Madhë, Pekisht, Trash, Algjinaj, Gryksh i Vogël and Karthnek.
Gjocaj is a village and a former municipality in the Elbasan County, central Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a subdivision of the municipality Peqin. The population at the 2011 census was 5,207. The municipal unit consists of the villages Gjocaj, Celhakaj, Hasmashaj, Kurtaj, Vashaj, Rrumbullak, Bregas, Bardhas and Blinas.
Karinë is a village and a former municipality in the Elbasan County, central Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a subdivision of the municipality Peqin. The population at the 2011 census was 1,350. The municipality consists of the villages Karinë, Kazije, Rrozej, Progem, Sinametaj, Drangaj and Garunje.
The Abdurrahman Pasha Mosque, also called Clock Mosque or simply Peqin Mosque is a Cultural Monument of Albania, located in Peqin.
The Party for Justice, Integration and Unity is a nationalist, right-wing political party in Albania whose primary aim is the promotion of national issues. The party focuses on highlighting national issues, including Kosovo, Albanians in North Macedonia, Montenegro, Presevo Valley and especially the Cham issue.
The Sanjak of Elbasan was one of the sanjaks of the Ottoman Empire. Its county town was Elbasan in Albania.
