Oxegen was a music festival in Ireland, first held from 2004–2011 as a rock and pop festival and again in 2013 with dance and chart acts only. Sound of the Underground is the debut studio album by English-Irish girl group Girls Aloud, formed through the ITV television series Popstars: The Rivals. It was released in Ireland on 23 May 2003, in the United Kingdom and Europe on 26 May 2003, and reissued on 17 November 2003 through Polydor. Girls Aloud worked with a variety of musicians and producers on Sound of the Underground, which was largely inspired by 1980s music. Comparisons were made with artists such as Bananarama, The Bangles, Blondie and Spice Girls.

"Sound of the Underground" is the debut single of British-Irish pop group Girls Aloud, later featured on their debut album of the same name. The song was written by Miranda Cooper, Brian Higgins, and Niara Scarlett, and produced by Higgins and his production team Xenomania. Following Girls Aloud's formation on the ITV1 reality television show Popstars: The Rivals, "Sound of the Underground" was released 16 days later, on 16 December 2002. Commercially, the song was an immediate success. It became the year's Christmas number one in the UK, spending four consecutive weeks atop of the charts in total. The song also reached number one in Ireland and peaked within the top forty in Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland.
Lisa Margaret Hannigan is an Irish musician, singer, composer, and voice actress. She began her musical career as a member of Damien Rice's band. Since beginning her solo career in 2007 she has released three albums: Sea Sew (2008), Passenger (2011), and At Swim (2016). Hannigan's music has received award nominations both in Ireland and the United States. Hannigan also received attention in North America for her role as Blue Diamond in Steven Universe, an American animated television series created by Rebecca Sugar.
The Choice Music Prize, known for sponsorship reasons as the RTÉ Choice Music Prize is an annual music prize awarded to the best album from a band or solo musician who is born in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland or holds an Irish passport. The Japanese Popstars are an Irish electronic group from Northern Ireland consisting of Gary Curran and Gareth Donoghue. Each member has his own alias. The act was nominated for "Best House DJs" at the 2006 World Urban Music Awards, "Best Live Performance" at the 2007 Northern Ireland Music Awards and won "Best Live Act" at the 2008 Irish Music Awards and then every year since. The discography of Laura Izibor, an Irish R&B musician, recording artist and producer, consists of one studio album, three extended plays, four singles and three music videos. Born and raised in Dublin, Izibor began writing songs as a 13-year-old and in 2003, she won a songwriting competition organised by Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). Her winning song, "Compatible", received heavy airplay on RTÉ 2fm and was the basis of a short documentary film broadcast on national television. Aged 17, Izibor signed to Jive Records and dropped out of school to record her debut studio album; however, after a dispute with the record label, she signed with Atlantic Records and relocated to New York City, United States to complete the recording. Due to long-term recording sessions in Ireland and the US, Izibor released two EPs, Live from Crawdaddy, Dublin (2007) and iTunes Festival: London 2008 (2008), on Atlantic and was featured on various film soundtracks. Let the Truth Be Told, her debut studio album, was released in 2009 after a four-year production process. The album, and its four singles, received widespread critical acclaim and charted in Ireland, the United Kingdom, the US, France, Japan and the Netherlands. Three of the album's singles—"From My Heart to Yours", "Don't Stay" and "If Tonight is My Last"—placed in the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Let the Truth Be Told was later nominated for the 2009 Choice Music Prize and earned Izibor a BET Award nomination for Best UK/Irish Act.
