Peter Cownie (born April 19,1980) is an American politician.
Cownie was born and raised in Des Moines,Iowa and resides in West Des Moines,Iowa. He has a B.A. in American government from the University of Virginia and a Master's of Public Administration with an emphasis in public policy from Drake University. He is a Republican Party member who served on the Iowa House of Representatives from 2009 to 2019. Until 2013,Cownie held the District 60 seat. He was subsequently redistricted to District 42.
Cownie's mother Patricia was appointed to the Iowa Board of Regents in 2015 by Governor Terry Branstad. [1] [2] During her tenure,Patricia Cownie served as president pro term. [3] Branstad's successor Kim Reynolds did not nominate Patricia Cownie to a second term. [4]

Terry Edward Branstad is an American politician and former diplomat. A member of the Republican Party,he served three terms in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1973 to 1979 before serving as governor of Iowa from 1983 to 1999 and again from 2011 to 2017. He is the longest-serving governor in United States history. Branstad served as the United States Ambassador to China from 2017 to 2020 under President Donald Trump.
Dwayne Arlan Alons was an American politician. A Republican,he sat in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1999 to 2014,representing the 5th district until 2003,and the 4th district thereafter. He was a brigadier general in the Iowa Air National Guard and served as chief of staff at its headquarters. Alons died of cancer on November 29,2014. He was succeeded in office by John Kooiker.
Henry V. Rayhons was the Iowa State Representative from the 8th District. A Republican,he served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1997 through 2015,representing the 16th District from 1997 to 2003 and the 11th District from 2003 to 2013. In 2014,Rayhons announced he would not seek reelection to another term.

As of 2011 Dandekar serves as the Chair of the National Foundation for Women Legislators and as a board member of the Iowa Math and Science Coalition,the Greater Cedar Rapids Foundation,and the Belin-Blank International Center for Gifted &Talented. Dandekar previously served on the Iowa Association of School Boards,and as a board member of the Women in Public Policy,and the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy. On July 23,2013 Dandekar announced that she would be running for the U.S. Congress from the 1st congressional district;she lost in the primary to former state house speaker Pat Murphy,who himself lost to Rod Blum.
Rod Roberts is the Iowa State Labor Commissioner. Roberts is also a former Republican gubernatorial candidate and five-term Iowa State Representative from the 51st and 80th Districts. He served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2001 to 2011 and was an assistant minority leader. He received his BA from Iowa Christian College,as did his wife.

Huseman announced in January 2020 that he would retire from the state house upon the conclusion of his thirteenth term in office.

Branstad narrowly defeated a tough challenger in his primary election,emerging victorious by fewer than 12,000 votes. On the Democratic side,Attorney General of Iowa Bonnie Campbell won her party's nomination and both Branstad and Campbell moved on to the general election. Branstad ultimately won re-election to a fourth term as governor,defeating Campbell by a comfortable margin.
The 2014 Iowa gubernatorial election took place on November 4,2014. Republican incumbent Terry Branstad ran for reelection to a sixth overall and second consecutive four-year term. Branstad went on to win a historic sixth term as governor by defeating Democratic challenger and State Senator Jack Hatch,and on December 14,2015,he became the longest-serving governor in American history. He won 59.1% of the popular vote to Hatch's 37.3%,and carried every county in the state except Johnson,home to Iowa City and the University of Iowa.
